Well, I talked my DH into going back to Florida this weekend for the 4th of July. Unfortunately, he does not want to drive to Orlando, and since we just got back we are strapped for cash anyway.
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. He has never been to a beach before. So I talked him into going to Panama City Beach. :sunny:
We will only be 7 hours away from Orlando. That's progress anyway, right?

That's what we're doing this fall. For the past 15 years we've spent 2 weeks at the beach. Now that we have kids, they aren't all that excited about relaxing under an umbrella (go figure!) So we are spending the weekend at the beach, driving to Universal during the week and coming back for another weekend on the beach. Hopefully that will make everyone happy. (The beach is 1/2 way between our home and Universal, so it breaks up the trip nicely.

Yeah, the beach is also the halfway point for us. Takes 7 hours to get there and then about another 7 to Orlando. Give or take a little. Next summer we will probably do like you are doing...go to the beach for a day on the way down, then hit WDW, SW, and US/IOA for a week. We may skip the beach on the way home though. :sunny:

Enjoy your holiday Tasha+Scott! We love the beach. Never been to Panama Beach, but my sister has & she loved it. 7 hours there...yikes! I give credit to all you who can drive for long distances. Six hours in the car is my limit & that's pushing it. :p I'm worse than the kids with the "Are we there yet, are we there yet?!":p

I love panama city beach! we may zip down for the weekend ourselves. DH has been dieing to go back and take the SeaDoos for some jet sking out to shell island. now that is fun. I love how the dolphins come right up to you out there in the bay. after all this rain, I am ready to get out of this house and go anywhere!

LOL! Well, I am a military brat. Both of my parents were in the A.F. so we moved constantly. And we drove on every occasion. We only flew twice and that was just to visit family. We also took the train twice but that was just to visit family too. The longest car trip we took was from Arizona to Florida. That one took almost 5 days with stopping for the nights, of course.
So, I guess you can probably see why I get a little...hmm, edgy?...when I can't hop in the car and drive somewhere. This will be our 3rd trip to Florida in the past month and a half. I have Florida fever...I am an addict!

And, Metallicat, I know exactly what you mean about needing a break from the rain! We live in Mississippi and have caught a lot of rain ourselves. This is the first day that it hasn't poured non-stop here all week! Can't wait for a day at the beach!
