Head Waiter?

Does anyone know if Zouhaier is still on the Magic? We had him last year and my family adored him. He paid a lot of attention to the kids and stopped by every night to check on us. On the previous cruise we only saw the head server when it was time for the tip. Does everyone tip the recommended amount even if you never see them? thanks for the help. Beth

We generally tip the recommended amount if we don't see the head waiter much and an additional amount if we do and if he or she gives excellent service. Happily, we end up tipping extra more often than not. On the Wonder, P.J., Rita, and Kapoor are all super, and Paul from Scotland on the Magis is great too. There have only been a handful of times in 31 cruises that we haven't seen the head server much.

What do they do when you don't see them...
Is there some special "behind the scenes" type stuff that goes on that we don't know about????

I don't know what exactly they do - but I know ours on the Wonder in Dec 2001 was one GOOD LOOKING FELLOW!!! I think his name was Daniel - but it might have been Hugh! I don't know why I'm torn between two such dissimilar names! Anyway - my Mom, DD and I got our picture taken with him - we were all three in love! Our servers (who were both women) said that all the staff were crazy about him too!

Yes, they do a lot of behind the scenes stuff. They are in charge of the dining teams in a certain area, and they also handle special requests such as birthday celebrations and other things such as special menu requests. They make dishes like cherries jubilee too.

Disney Debbie... Was your head server from UK? We had Daniel for a head server.. Our oldest daughter who was 12 at the time (who was charmed by him!) somehow joked with him the whole cruise about she liked him better with a "messy" tie than a neat one, so on the final night when we were taking pictures, she asked him to pose with a messy tie, and he did

I believe Zouhaier was our head waiter in February. I saw him twice. Once when I changed my table assignment as soon as we boarded and the next was on the last night. Other than that, he never stopped by. We tipped the recommended amount, mainly because he gave us our requested table assignment.

Christophe was ours last April & we loved him. He helped our servers to play tricks on us. He was so much fun!

Sam, the one on our first cruise was friendly, but reserved. He did get us moved to a table for 4, from the "Table from Hell" so we were VERY grateful & tipped him well too! He was in Palo's on our last cruise.

I think it depends on their personalities. They do a great deal, but they make it look seamless.

We had Paul from Scotland this past week on the wonder, Exelent sevice and we saw him at our table more than once each night!

Beth - Yes!! That's him - wasn't he a doll? I think the reason I might have thought his name was Hugh was because we thought he looked like Hugh Grant! He had a great personality - and while I don't know how much should be attributed to him - but we never had a problem, we were quite happy with our table and our servers were great - so I don't mind tipping him at all.

Maclean from India was our head server and he was both attentive and entertaining. He made DS's birthday very special with his own special additions to the cake, singing and Birthday pin!

Best head server I've had in 5 cruises - definitely want to get his team again!

Just got off the Magic this past Saturday and Zouhaier was on board. He is an excellent head server!

In our case, our server and asst. server were having trouble with the lobster and the head server came to their rescue. He knew what he was doing. Having a ships officer at our table that evening also helped in getting the head servers attention.
