I have tried to read up on the HDDR, and have read about the seating choices (main floor and balcony)

I was thinking we would want to be on the main floor, but after reading some reviews people commented about how their kids could see the show better because they were up in the balcony area.

We have never done the HDDR before and I want to make sure I am making a good decision and regret not learning more earlier!

Does anyone have an opinion about the main floor vs. balcony? Thanks!

We have never been in the balcony but we have had different areas of the main floor.
My boys were younger when we were seated almost in the back. they had no problems seeing the show because most of it is up on the stage. The only time the actors come down on the floor is when they are singing a few songs and these are love songs that my boys thought were boring. The actors also come on the floor to see who is celebrating a birthday but you are able to see them without a problem.
We had front table seating once and although it was good it was too close to really see everything. We had sore necks from looking up the entire show.
I think personally that on the main floor would be more entertaining, but that is only my opinion. Peggie

I have read that they assign your seating at the time of your booking, so the earlier you book, the more likely you are to be on the Main Floor, which they fill first. Does anyone know if this is true?
TIA

Yep, they fill it by number in table and then by first come first serve. I booked mine a while before our trip and then realized a month or so later it was the wrong night, so I changed and the new night was significantly more booked. We ended up getting the back row, floor, and we were at first disappointed, but it turns out that that table has bar stools and we were up higher. It was great! Have a great time! It's a hoot!

We have not been in the balcony, but last time I reserved way early and we were about 4 or 5 tables back on the floor. The location was great! We could see everything and the kids thought the show was going on just for them I think. Already have our table reserved for November! :)

we've done both and were disappointed w/the balcony seating... we were along the side and the table was long and we were very close elbow to elbow w/the families on either side of us which we found uncomfortable, plus, we were seated in a row from one another so dh could not see dd or talk to me except over ds' head... and, we had to swivel our chairs around so our backs were to our table to watch the show so we could not eat while watching and had to choose between food and entertainment when we were really wanting "both"

ergo, my advice is to request main floor, not balcony! :)

I agree with gigi1313. We were on a side balcony and it was awkward to swivel back & forth. There were several breaks during the show and we tried to eat then. We still had a great time but we'd have been more comfortable on the main floor.
