We are leaving in less than a week for our first trip. There are 11 of us going, my father is a very picky eater. I was looking over the menu for the HDDR and don't see much that he will eat other than the beans and the desert. Has anyone else been succesful in getting the staff to have alternative items for picky eaters? I offered to let him and mom go out without the large group that night. But they decided to stick it out, for the price I would hate for him not eat much and need to get food back at the resort. Any thoughts?

Hoop is pretty good about alternate meals. They share the kitchen with Trail's End (the buffet) and Crockett's Tavern (the bar/lounge) so you can usually get something different brought to you fairly easily. I would call the restaurant 24-48 hours in advance of your reservation and talk to them directly about what you would like to have. With advance notice any WDW restaurant will do their best to accomodate your needs.

My advice is not to worry about it. He's a grown up, adult man. He knows what he will and won't eat. He has been advised of the menu, and he has been offered an alternative plan, and declined it. Just go and enjoy, and never look at your father's plate even once! If he eats nothing at all, he will live through it!

I haven't done HDDR yet, going in Aug. My dd is picky and it sounds like from other reports that the servers offer kids other options at the table when ordering. I've been told that if you have special meal requests to call 407-824-2858 1 day ahead. I'd call ahead for adult options...

HDDR has vegetarian alternatives, I can tell you that, so I'm sure there are other kinds. What you do is Pioneer Hall directly 24 hours in advance and it's no big deal, lots of people do it. I wish I had the number for you, but I never can find it when I need it and always have to ask Disney Dining for it. But they have the number. Call, I bet they have more choices than just even the veggie ones -- they really do aim to please!

Our server asked us if my DD (age 2) wanted something different to eat. She gave her tons of choices. I am sure you could do the same for an adult. I didn't know they had a vegetarian choice. If we ever do it again I will opt for that, not much to eat if you don't like meat. I didn't say anything about it at the time though. We were being treated by my in-laws and I didn't want to make a fuss.

Is that the number for the kitchen or the general number for the hall itself?
