HDD and seating - when to confirm tickets ?

When have not been to WDW in 5 years - so policies may have changed.

What I remember - for HDD, we make our ADR 180 days in advance.
Then when we arrive at WDW, we go to our WDW hotel front desk and ask for our HDD tickets, When we get our tickets, the more days before our HDD ADR date, the better our table.
Is that true ?
Pick up your HDD tickets 5 days before your show and get a table closer to the stage ?
Pick up your HDD tickets the day of your show and get worse seats ?

Our is your table assigned to the HDD show when you make your ADR 180 days in advance ?

Please advise.

The earlier the reservation, the better the table setting. It is not tied to when you pick up your tickets, but rather when you book your reservation

From my experience, pickup time means nothing. We picked up our tickets at Guest Relations in AK just a few hours before going to HDDR that night and we sat at the table right next to the piano and banjo player at the stage. Made the ADR, though, a couple months ahead, so I would think that had far more to do with it.

I confirmed last week while there that pickup does nothing. It's based on time of ADR. In fact, the Concierge strongly suggested not picking up the ticket early in case it got lost (one ticket for entire group).

I did not pick up until day before and we were front row, one table from center.

I am so glad it is tied to when we reserve our ADR for HDD.
We make our ADR's at 180 day mark - so I hope we get a great tier 1 table.

Our family loves the HDD.

I will create a reminder for myself on my cell phone to get the HDD tickets on the day of our HDD evening.
