There's all kinds of Hawaiian music and I'm wondering if you're looking for general suggestions or a specific type?

However, for my personal tastes, I concur with Dan's suggestion on Israel Kamakawiwoole, some of his music has been in movies and tv shows (ER is one), and is really beautiful. He used to be in a group called Makaha Sons.

Anything by Na Leo Pilimehana (they often go by just Na Leo these days) is a good bet too.

Brothers Cazimero, but their music is not as main stream as Iz and Na Leo.

For some slightly older stuff, the Krush and Kalapana (those are groups that are no longer together). Also, Audy Kimura for a mellower sound.

I like Kapena too.

Cecilio and Kapono (commonly referred to as C&K) is very popular.

If you like instrumental stuff, Jake Shimabukuro is a terrific ukulele player.

I lost all the info on my hard drive so I was going to re-load this. It is all surfy type island music and so great. I got it off of kazaa. I know one of the groups is Ten Feet. The rest are hawaiian names. I just love this cd. When I re-load I will post back if the group names come up on my pc.

IZ is really good music but if ya are looking for some hawaiian music that's not very traditional, The Surfers are excellent...Kelly Slater, Rob Machado are professional surfers who sing about the islands and aren't that bad.

As others have said, Iz is very good (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole), as well as Na Leo.

Keali'i Reichel is also excellent (I particularly like Kawaipunahele).

Keola Beamer is a little more mellow (not that the others are "heavy" or anything), but also good. (I have "Island Born")

Also, Hapa and Amy Gilliam.

None of these are really the "chanting and drums type", though most of it is fairly traditional. Na Leo does have some more pop oriented stuff.
