Hawaiian Aloha Camp shirts - Is there a difference between men & womens?

I need a hawaiian type shirt for an event. I've been looking online, but every time I find a fabric I like, its either not available as a womens shirt or they don't have my size. I'm plus size. Dresses don't look that hot on me. Wish they did. And I don't want to look like I'm wearing a muumuu.

I've found a fabric I really like, but its currently only available in a mens shirt.
As far as I can tell from looking at the womens version & the mens version, the only differences I see would be that the mens sometimes have a pocket, & sleeve & shirt length are longer.

If the length of sleeves or shirt are too long, I have someone who can shorten them, so that's not a major problem.

Do you see any other reason not to order the mens shirt size it is available in a size that works with my measurements?

Here is an example from the website I'm looking at of a womens & a mens shirts? Do you see any other differences? Mens cost more - isn't that unusal?

I think on men's shirts, the buttons are on the right side and women's shirts have them on the left. If that makes no difference to you, you can certainly wear a men's Hawaiian shirt!:thumbsup2

My DH and I picked up a couple of Hawaiian shirts for him on our honeymoon. He doesn't fit in them anymore so I "borrow" them all the time. As a PP said, the difference is in the button placement, but that doesn't stop me from wearing them.

OK, that's what I thought. Camp shirt / aloha shirt is a pretty simple & loose shirt style, so I didn't think there was much difference in the fit.

They guys have TONS more fabric choices than the womens. Not fair. Sure many are clearly guy fabric, but some are clearly unisex. The same fabric is used for men & womens shirts on some. Some of the ladies shirts (fabric)even looked masculine to me. :rotfl:

I've been going CRAZY trying to find a shirt I liked, then when I did, it wasn't available in my size. Frustrating. Finally decided to just look at the mens & there are way more choices.

Since I assume you aren't being dressed by servants, the men's button placement should not be a problem.

However, men will need to stand on the other side of you to peek into your shirt.:scared1:

It doesn't appear to me that the top button is any lower on the mens version than it is on the womens version. Each are about 1/2 down the height of the armhole / sleeve.

And if I'm wrong, I'll just be the hit of the party.

Mens and womens sizes do not run the same. Go look at a sizing chart for your size shirt and it should have chest measuments and hip/torso. Then go find the corresponding measurments on the mens chart and see what size is compatable.

In a more tailored shirt, I'd say stick with Women's, but in a hawaiian camp style shirt, as long as you can see the measurements, I'd think a men's would be fine...It will button "backwards" but who cares?
