I would like to go to next January or February and trade for a DVC quality time share. Am I crazy? I have free AA trip to anywhere they fly from NY. Should I try to go to Hawaii or just give up and go somewhere else? If anyone has stayed in Maui -which resorts were good and which were bad. How long would you stay? I am going with my wife and 2 boys (4 and 1) I read some of the other Hawaii posts and it seems rather complicated. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

There is a lot of great information on previous posts about Hawaii exchanges. You should really do a search on hawaii...and add Dean's name to the search criteria. He's the resident expert...and we're thankful for him! :D

Also...not sure what kind of free tickets/vouchers you have...but check for blackout dates.

Why not use your points to stay at the Kapalua resort on Maui?
Its part of the concierge collection.
We were there a few years ago and can't wait to get back!
Kapalua resort is on its own little bluff right on the ocean's edge and its simply breathtaking.
Check it out, you won't be disappointed!

The previous poster is right. Dean has some excellent Hawaii advice.

I think he mentioned the Marriott time share in Maui is very close to Disney quality. Right on the beach.:earsboy:

It's not difficult to trade into the Kona Coast on the Big Island. This resort is not on the beach (about a block away) but the accomodations are good. In any case, people usually go to the Big Island for exploring and volcanos rather than swimming.

May I share my experience regarding taking small children to Hawaii? We went to the beautiful island when our DS was 18 months old. While I don't regret taking the trip, it was not an easy one. DS stayed on EDST, which meant that he was up for the day at 2:00 a.m. Because he was so young, I, too, was up then. He'd nap for a bit later on, but at 2-3:00 in the afternoon, he was totally done for the day. Needless to say, this greatly limited our touring time.

If you should go, I hope you have better luck than we did. ;) I just wanted to let you know what you might be in for.
