We want to trade points for Hawaii. We would like to go in 2009. How long has anyone had to wait to get a resort? We would like to get 2 two bedroom units on Maui. We dont care if they are at the same resort or not. Send any and all info on where you stayed and how you liked it too. Thanks I'm waiting patiently:)

For Maui that's a tall order even for the lowest of seasons. You should investigate the resorts to see which ones are acceptable to you and then put in a request a full 2 years out for all that apply. Some actually have 3 BR units as well but not that many. There simply aren't too many 2 BR units for Maui that are not lockoff's and most members separate the lockoff's and deposit them separately. And you may get one resort and not get the other or if you do, it might be 40 miles away. Decide which resorts are acceptable then decide how you want to proceed. If you tell II (through DVC) that you will only accept the two units at the same time you've changed your chances from maybe 10% success rate to about 1% I'd guess. You could also ask for multiple smaller units and have a larger chance of success. Here are some options and thoughts.
  • If a 3 BR unit will work for the group, put in a separate search for that option.
  • Put in two different searches for 2 BR and cross reference each request to the other. Specifically state you'll take one unit if it comes along. Then once you get one unit, you can change you're other request to the resorts in that area if it matters. You could also cancel the 3 BR search if you had it going and decided you no longer wanted that option.
  • You could look for a direct exchange with someone who owned a larger unit and/or multiple units.
  • You'd likely want to schedule a cancelable condo or hotel rental

Also remember that many 2 BR units in HI are only designed for 6, not 8 people. The nicest resorts are the Westin and Marriott with the Sunterra not that far behind.
