where do I go to find out about the other timeshares we can stay at as DVC members. I'm really particularly interested in Hawaii and the other Hawaiian islands. Are there places online we can visit to see what these places look like and what their amenities are? Thanks!

Go the members website at www.dvcmembers.com. Then go to "plan your getaway" you will find information about the II exchanges in the "world passport collection". There are also nightly Hawaii exchanges in the "concerige collection" but these are upscale hotels and not timeshares.

Good luck - we are currently waitlisted for a Hawaii exchange too.

That's good advice, except that the URL is http://www.dvcmember.com/ (not plural). If you need the ID and password, you can get them from Member Services if you're a DVC member.

When you're on the World Passport Collection page, click on Hawaii USA for a 5-page PDF file.

The PDF file has links to the Web sites of some of the resorts. You can also do a Google search on the resort names to find sites with more information.

And if you really want to learn more about each of the resorts, join the Timeshare Users Group for $15.

thanks everyone! I really appreciate the info. It's kinda hard to know what to do when you've just joined- this board makes it so much easier!

I'd second the TUG recommedation. You could also ask here and those of us more experienced with timeshare might be able to help. You can go to Interval International where you could go into the directory even if you are not a member. I don't think that version tells you whether the resorts are 5* or not. It's actually very simple. Only the Marriott's will be both up to the quality of DVC and still a reasonable trade value. Hanalei Bay will be close and worth considering. Kona Coast is up to the standards but much easier to get otherwise so I would not consider it a reasonable value. If the Embassy resorts end up with II as rumored, I'd add them to the above short list or recommended options. There are a number of other choices worth considering yet would be somewhat of a trade down.

Many of the options noted do not have a full kitchen, little more than a DVC studio

Remember there are other options to trade rather than through DVC. You could do a direct exchange or go through one of the independent exchange services.
