Hello everyone, this may be slightly off-topic, but this section seemed to be the best! (This or the DVC Resorts forum, but I decided to start here).

My family and I will be in Ko Olina in September. We are actually staying at the Marriott Vacation Club property a couple lagoons away from Aulani. :) I want to get family pictures taken, and was hoping for some suggestions. I am not interested in using the type of photographer hotels/resorts usually have advertised in their lobby..... I would like an outdoor digital photographer in the $250 range, where we would get printing rights to the edited images. I've searched craigslist and found a couple, but would love to hear if people have had good (or bad!) experiences with other photographers.

Thank you so much!

I don't have any referrals exactly, but I can suggest that you research to see if there are any local "photography" clubs or associations in the area. You may be able to contact them and see if any of their members might be interested in providing this service for you.

I only suggest this as my husband and I belong to our local photography club and an inquiry/request such as this would be something that would be passed along to the master/professional level photographers of the club. BTW our association has some excellent photographers who may not be true professionals (such as making a living at it) but they might provide this type of service and you'd get beautiful pictures.

Good Luck to you.

That's a great idea, thanks Terri! I never thought about anything like that. I'll look into it. We don't necessarily need professional level photographers, the people that do some photography on the side are fine with us! We've had some great luck this way and usually get 10-25 edited images on a disk, depending on the photographer. Usually it's a mother who just wants to make some extra money, so she does pictures on the weekends and evenings. :)

We had our family photos done by Tim Orden. I found him through a groupon deal, and we were very happy with the results. I'd be happy to answer questions you may have.

This will sound weird, but if you go on TheKnot or some other wedding planning website, you'll probably find some photographers.

Great idea, thanks lilpooh.

Cruiser - I googled his name. It looks like his standard package (at least on the expired groupon deals) included the session and two prints? If you wanted a CD it was several hundred dollars extra?

I can't help you there as we didn't buy the CD. We got a package of prints and I remember it being very reasonably priced (even without the groupon part, which covered the session itself). The prints were very high quality and quickly mailed out once we chose them online.
I believe most CDs will be pricey as you are buying the rights to the photos and not just the photos themselves.
