From what I have read, is an 11 month window non-exsistent when looking for a Hawaii trade? We're not locked into any specific week, but would need a 2 bdrm unit.

Any and all insights are greatly appreciated!

First of all, you are brave being a Gopher fan this year!

As for Hawaii trades, they are done through Interval International, so you can start a trade search up to 2 years ahead of when you want to travel. I think most trades come in the later part of that time period though. Once DVC opens it's Hawaii resort, we can book 7 months out with other DVC points, but that wont be until 2010 at the earliest.

Hi there, we are very new to the DVC process. We are planning a trip to Hawaii next year in October and are hoping to use our DVC points for this. We need a 3 bedroom unit and so far I have submitted a search with DVC for the Marriot in Maui. My question is where have people stayed in Hawaii that have 3 bedroom units and are on the beach. We are not set on any particular island - but Maui, The Big Island and Kauai apeal. I would like to add a few more resorts to the search but want to make sure they are decent enough places first. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks for your help!!

There are few 2 BR units available in HI as most resorts don't have many, most are lockoffs and deposited separately, most of the rest are rented out by the owners and the remainder normally go to the internal trading priority members. For 3 BR units you can multiple the previous info by 100. For Maui, only One Napili, Maui Marriott (will never happen), the Schooner and SOK have 3 BR. The only real hope is going to be off season and short notice through II. Even the 3 BR only sleep 8 at all the above except Marriott. One would have a much easier time trying for say 2 one BR units or a 2 BR and studio. Realistically for a 3 BR, one should count on a cash rental. But get one that's cancelable and still give the exchange a shot. That way you can get your air set and wait until one approaches the cancelation date of the cash rental before giving up on the exchange.

Thanks for your response. What is the best way to get what we want with this process. We want to go in October 2008. We are not set on a 3 bedroom, a 2 bedroom and a studio or 1 bedroom and a 2 bedroom would be fine too, but we were told by Disney that we could end up with one and not the other that way??

Thanks

Shelley

Unfortunately there's no option that will give you a good chance of success and will fulfill what you need/want. The closer you hold to what you need, the less your chances of success. Oct will help some as will being willing to accept other islands. There are a few other resorts that have 3 BR units and a number that will give you a better chance of getting a 2 BR. It is possible to set up the search so you get all at one time (such as a 2 BR plus studio) but the chances of getting both at the same time are so low that it dramatically reduces your chance of a match.

I'd say there are 3 possibilities and some combinations of those that might work for you. looking at cash options and forgetting an exchange, doing a cash back up while looking for what will fit your needs (3 BR, 2 BR plus one other) OR doing separate requests for a 3 BR, 2 BR and 1 BR, taking what comes and adjusting your requests and them supplementing with cash options if you don't get all you need. This illustrates one of the issues when trying to get items that have little availability in general (3 BR) or high demand resorts/areas such as Maui. I use my middle of the road options to trade and rent out my high demand options, most owners of the above type items do the same. Most 3 BR are lockoff's and those owners tend to not deposit them as a single unit when they do deposit.
