Having the "we need more points" bug REALLY BAD!

Hey everyone. LONG time lurker, but haven't posted much (and apparently I can't even get the cool pics in my signature until I post more so I thought I'd say what I've been thinking about DVC)...!

We got 300 points at OKW and absolutely love it (despite many people sort of dogging on OKW we just thought it was wonderful.) I can't wait until the boats are working again to DS as we remember riding boats from POFQ to DS and having a grand time years ago.

Well, you'd think that 300 points would suffice but NOPE; I find myself parusing the DVC resale sites almost daily and after maybe just a few weeks of "the bug", we've made an offer on AKV.

I'm crazy excited about it; we're in ROFR right now, so fingers crossed.

I'm curious about how many of you have stuck with your one initial contract vs getting a second (or third)?? Did you stick with the same UY (we did). How many points is enough?? (Subjective, I know, but I'm curious about what other people's takes are.) Thanks!!!

1. I bought my 2nd and 3rd contract before we took our first trip on points.

2. Bought different use years unfortunately because what I wanted wasn't available in my UY. Working to consolidate now.

I bought my second before my first closed (and I know I am hardly alone in this cohort ). I did ultimately go with two UY - it was originally bc of the the specific deal but it ended up being the right call bc we use those points exclusively for an annual trip after my original UY banking window.

We also bought our second contract before we used the first. We have added on more than 15 times during our 22 years of membership. We have just sold our two VB contracts which came to 200 points. We still have 1300 points, and we have stayed with our March UY.

We started with SSR, had an offer on AKV before we closed SSR, and then had BRV in ROFR a week after the AKV contract. Those three are all in the same UY. We ended up added a second UY at SSR for specific trips in spring a few months later. We added on to our original UY a couple of months later with a direct RIV purchase and added at RIV again a year later. WHEW! Last year we added a small resale RIV in yet another UY again for a specific reason and we got a good deal on it. So 7 contracts , 3 UYs. I think we’re set for now (625 points) we will add some more down the line but this covers our needs for now with 3-4 trips a year.

Do you do other vacations that aren’t related to DVC? I own 450 points and feel like if I was paying for 3x as many points dues each year, I’d feel obligated to spend all my vacation time at Disney.

Hah seems the trend is to not only buy before you try, but buy twice before you try. We bought our first 3 contracts essentially at the same time: 2 direct, 1 small resale. We sold that resale not quite a year later because we realized 50pts at Poly was never going to be enough and bought a slightly bigger contract and have since added even more Poly direct went it went on sale again. We’ve now been owners for 2 years and a bit and have 7 contracts all in the same UY.

And you know it’s enough when the dues make you weep a bit but honestly, we do a lot of travel outside of DVC too, otherwise I’d definitely be adding more, but 725 is good for now. Actually, we will likely buy more Riviera before it sells out in the next year or two…my bank account and travel timeline really hopes it’s in two lol

The regulars on this board that own DVC and only have a single contract are rare as hen's teeth, or at least it seems that way.

The good folks on this site will make you feel warm and fuzzy about owning DVC, and will encourage you in each and every add-on, of which there will be many We support each other in our addiction!

We purchased an intitial VB contract (which we have sold) and a couple months later bought a small VGF contract.

Then a few months after that we added on 150 points direct.

We subsequently sold our small VB contract. Best decision I ever made financially, but I do miss having the additional points...

We would like to add more points at some point, but aren't in a big hurry to do so... likely 2-3 years from now we will add some more...

I could also envision a future where we sell the entire set of points rather than add on... The big obstacle we are running into is TIME...

Bought resale SSR, and closed our 2nd contract (direct, same UY) while I was waiting for our rental car at MCO on our first DVC trip! Added a third contract, and second UY 2 years later. We have 560 points and I'm pretty content with that amount; could always use more but the dues do add up.
