Having Lasik Friday...question

Now, back to the OP:
My DH had Lasik about 7 years ago and is very pleased with his results, as are most of the people I've talked to. However, one of his colleagues was the one-in-XXXX that got all the complications, and has permanent damage.

My personal advice is NOT to go by the 'best deal', but rather, check out the surgeon's record - how long have they been doing this, where did they get trained, the number of times he or she has done the procedure, their complication rate, etc.

If the $500 could go towards a possible future vision correction other then what your getting corrected now then I'd consider their $500 offer. But if they're saying they'll fine tune what they should've done correctly in the first place then I'd say find another doctor/clinic.

I got Lasik done in 2000 and haven't had any problems since the procedure. The only problem I had during the procedure is I kept squeezing out the anesthesia from my right eye (this was back when they cut the cornea) and I felt it when he cut into that eye . But you don't have to worry about that.

I had it done in Jan. and I love it! I have 20/15 vision. I've been wearing glasses/contacts since I was 5 years old, and probably should have had them before that, but I couldn't voice that I couldn't see. There was a PP that said to follow the instructions with the drops etc, couldn't agree more. All of the drs that have looked at my eyes since the surgery have said they can hardly see where he made the cut, and said it had to do with how well I took care of my eyes. They didn't offer any kind of "warranty" or even touch up work. But the only thing they did say(but it was only because of how bad my eyesight was)that I might need reading glasses as I age(like in my 40's) but it would be simple as going to the dollar store and picking up some reading glasses! But Good luck! I actually started crying as soon as my surgery was over and I opened my eyes and could SEE!!! It was the first time I could remember seeing without aide! And my hubby watched the whole surgery on a screen outside of the room.

Okay, I am finally going to have Lasik. I'm a little nervous, but very excited. My question is, how many people have to get a touch-up? They offer a lifetime touch-up free if you buy a $500 warranty the day of surgery. Ist this a good deal? Oh my surgery price $3900 is for a year of anything I need done. I'm having the custom blade free.

Congratulations! You will love it, it will change your life! I am five years out and haven't needed a touch up. I had mine done at the Laser Center (the group that did Tiger Woods.) My girlfriend on the other hand, needed it within a year of her surgery and even then it didn't take. She had hers done elsewhere. The likelihood that you will need it depends on the skill of your surgeon and your pre-op status. Your surgeon should be able to provide you with a pretty decent guideline as to what to expect. Ask him "what percent of patients that have measurements similar to mine, end up needing touch-ups." Also, as others have said, read the fine print carefully. I have heard that sometimes places will void that warranty if you do not follow the post op instructions to the T for the full year post op.

I had it done 4 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did. I have had glasses/contacts since I was 13. There is NOTHING like waking up and being able to see! my vision went from awful to 20/15. I went to a surgeon here that actually invented some of the machines they use to test and measure the eyes. I went 1st to a orientation and then I had to go in for 2 hours of tests/measurements. this doctor said that he has had to repair the work done by the cheaper "drive thru" surgeons. I went for a year of follow ups with no problems. I do, now need reading glasses for fine print.

I guess my best advise is to make sure your surgeon is experienced and check out his success record (mine gave everyone a copy of it) Also make sure he takes the time to run the tests before.

Hi, just chiming in to say that I had Lasik done about 2 weeks ago and my eyesight was horrible. I paid 2000.00 to have both eyes done and now I see with 20/20 in my right eye and 20/30 in my left. Now for me thats great because I could only see like the second line on an eye chart if that tells ya anything. LOL So I highly recommend it to anybody.

Good luck! I can't answer your question about the warranty since I haven't had the laser surgery, but since I want it, I'll be following this thread. I'm hoping to go ahead and get the evaluation to see if I'm a candidate. I may not be since I tend to have dry eyes, but if I am I'd love to get it in January when I'm on semester break, so I need to get moving on it! Would have had it done a couple years ago, but we've had to watch our money and couldn't spend the extra $ on that (we still can't afford it, but with me in school now I need to either get it done soon or get new glasses).

Just so you are aware, there is basically no recovery time so don't worry about having to do it when you have free time. I had my surgery at 5:00, went home, and slept. When I woke up the next morning I could see perfectly! I still remember that day so clearly. The day before it had snowed, so the ground was covered with a fresh coat of snow, it was sunny, and I was seeing things more clearly than I ever remember!

I wish you all the success that I had with my lasik. I have 20/10 vision in both eyes. It's like being able to see things that perhaps you shouldn't.

As for wearing sunglasses all the time, I wear mine and because I have peripheral vision with them, unlike when I wore prescription sunglasses, I don't even remember that I have them on until I go into a darker place.

I didn't buy the warranty package. So far, I've been more than happy with everything and can't imagine needing a tune up.

I had my surgery about 6ish years ago and it was the best decision I've ever made. My vision was 20/800 or about -6.5 in contacts. I'm 20/20 and 20/25 and I've had no issues. For about the first 5 months at night the car headlights would "star", but that went away and was never really a bother. It cost about $3K back then.

I had Lasik done a year ago. I had nearsightedness, astigmatism and dry eyes. My vision is now 20/20 and they were able to correct my astigmatism as well. I still have dry eyes, and use drops routinely. I am in my mid-forties, so am starting to need reading glasses once in a while. Lasik was the best money I have ever spent. I did purchase a lifetime package, so if my vision needs future correction, I can have additional lasik, from the original provider,at no cost. The only requirement is that I must have an annual eye exam (not required by the provider who did my Lasik, but I will have my vision exams from them anyway); if I fail to have an annual exam, my warranty is void. Good luck with your surgery...I hope all goes well and that you enjoy the results as much as I enjoy mine!

I wore glasses since I was 10 yrs old. By my mid twenties I couldn't read the big E on the eye charts. I had Lasik done 11 years ago when I was 42. The Dr warned me I wouldn't be a perfect 20/20, but to me 20/25 is just great! I never had tune ups and just started using reading glasses a few years ago, mostly just for the newspaper.
I had the choice to do one eye at a time or have both done at the same time. I'm glad I decided to just get it over with in one sitting. That night my eyes really hurt. For the first time I had to use sleeping pills to sleep. The next morning it was so wonderful. I woke up and could see! No more groping for my glasses. When you wake up Saturday you will be amazed.
