having issues with trying to download pics from iphone and camera

Im having major issues with my iphone and camera in downloading to the computer I used to be able to do this and now nothing is working

heres whats happening

if I try to use my iphone I plug everything in and nothing happens--I used to get a screen about import photos

tried my husbands phone--get a message --that the USB cord isnt recongized by the computer

yet this is the computer weve always used and never had any problems

is there a certain setting on the phone that somehow got turned off wierd things like this happen--we sometimes get a message that the interent connection was lost--go to settings and somehow the interent button was turned off


as far as our regular camera goes---when we would download more pictures is would start were the last pcis were now it says theres 900+ photos to download--so it starts gets to about 200 and then I get a message that there was an error in a file and I have 3 choices skip over this file--skip over files with errors and cancel the download

I try all 3 and the only one that does anything is the cancel the download

this is really getting fustrating as we never had problems before

does anyone have any tips or advice on this

Not sure if this will help with the iPhone but it worked with my new 6S+,, IOS 9. When I plugged it in I got NOTHING in File Explorer. Phone didn't load or anything. Found this workaround with Google search, tried it and it worked and have not had any problem since.

Go into the camera app, take any random picture (subject unimportant - I took a pic of my knee). Plug in the phone cable to the USB and the PC recognized the phone. I know this sounds stupid but it did work and when I plugged the phone in about 2 weeks later it was recognized. I am using Windows 10 Pro (desktop) but had to do the same procedure for my laptop (Windows 10 Home).
