Having hard time deciding

Me, DH, DD and possibly DS will be going to WDW in 2010 and I am looking into resorts. I don't know which resort I should choose. I've been reading that POP is noisy and very crowded and I'm not real excited about any of the other values. My other choices are the moderates: Port Orleans, CBR, CSR. DH says we could possibly swing Wilderness Lodge, but I'm leaning more toward a moderate. DD will be almost 4 when we go and DS will be 18 (but he is ADHD)so yes, he is very active. If the free dining is available we will do that, so then which resort would you pick. The size of the resort isn't really a big deal as long as we could get nearer to the pool and dining. We would be going in September if that will help any. Thanks.:tinker:

2010, you're planning way in advance. Since you're looking at September, and will likely get huge savings due to the free DDP (don't know if it will still be available in 2010, but here's hoping) I'd say spend the little extra and go to a moderate. As I found out this year, it's actually cheaper to stay at a moderate with a free DDP than it is to stay at a value and pay for the DDP, so why not splurge a little?

My favorite moderates are the POs. FQ is especially nice because everything is really close to the bus stop and main building and the pool is bright and active and super fun for kids. The theming is also spectacular if you like the idea of New Orleans but don't like drunk sorority girls everywhere.

POR is more spread out (might be farther away from a bus stop or the main building) and the theming is a little more elegant and less fun, but it's much quieter and more laid back and has absolutely gorgeous grounds. The pool is more subdued in design, but still active. Both are in a fairly nice central location. They're not right next to any of the theme parks, but they're a short enough trip to all of them.

We're staying at CSR this September. It's my first more than overnight stay at CSR so I can't really suggest it yet, although I'm really excited.

Hope that helped.

I haven't stayed at CSR or CBR. Some say those are very large and spread out resorts. POR is pretty large too.

I have stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ). I like it because it is smaller, and the Riverside resort is connected, there is a walkway between the two. Also, both resorts run along a very pretty river.

We walked to Riverside resort and had dinner at the sit-down restaurant (Boatwrights). Note that French Quarter has food court but no sit-down restaurant. We went during free dining and walked from French Qtr to Riverside our first evening for dinner, and it turned out to be one of our favorite dinners of the week. You can also use the pools at both resorts, And there is a boat that goes between the two resorts and also goes to Downtown Disney, it's a relaxing adventure taking the boat!

I have been to all the Value resorts as well. I don't think they are that much more crowded or noisy than the moderates. (the parks and the restaurants will have a lot more crowds and noise than the resorts!) All food courts are busy in the morning, and all main pools can be crowded. The values have three pools and each main pool will be more crowded than the "secondary" pools. If the pools are important to you, schedule some swim time in the "off times" like later in the evening or in the morning.

I thought the room noise from other rooms was better at the values, and have read studies here on the boards in regard to room noise. for example, Pop Century is one of the quietest as far as hearing other people in their rooms, and I agree with that, I think because they are newer and building materials have improved over the years.

Try looking at the resorts on either wdwinfo.com (main page of the boards, or on allearsnet.com). It's so much fun planning, and you will have a great time no matter what resort you choose!

You might want to check out the family suites at the all-star music. We just recently stayed there and really enjoyed ourselves.

As far as moderates, I too would recommend one of the Port Orleans resorts.

My favorite is probably Wilderness Lodge. It is absolutely breathtaking. The polynesian would be another great option. Its on the monorail, so that makes it very convenient.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll have a good time no matter which one you stay at.
