Having first yard sale!

Need some tips please! And help pricing! Anything that will make this easier and run better I need pleassssee!

Any tips on signs? We are planning just to hang them near the main roads and hope for people passing by. Its a really busy area and since the home belongs to a relative, not us, they did not want to advertise in any papers or online. Is it rude to put up a sign that says all sales are final? I do not want people going back to our in laws home to return of haggle later, and I read some stories on the DIS about people trying to return yard sale items. I am shocked people do that.


How many hours do you have your yard sale? 9-1? 9-2?

Is it weird to sell cans of soda, bottled water? How much should I price it?

We are going to try to price everything tomorrow for the weekend yard sale. I need a LOT of help here guys, please help!!!
HOW MUCH SHOULD WE PRICE THE FOLLOWING:

I have a lot of brand new items in original boxes that I won at work and have no idea how to price them, they are all brand new still in box & plastic:

Craftsman Staplegun (they are 30$ at Sears)
Black n Decker Laser level- (45$ on amazon)
12000 BTU air conditioner still in box,new unopened but has been sitting for 3 years-
Pirate's Dice Disney Game-
Counter top griddle/skillet thing-
Set of Pyrex bakeware still in box-
Sets of Billboards greates hits CD's with various artists-
Corningware Lunch warming kit
Pixma Mini Digital Photo Printer-

27 inch Sony Flat Screen (not flat panel) tv-
19 inch Magnavox Flat screen tv-

TONS of books hardcover & softcover how much? Books on tape? Books on CD?

How much to price glassware, stemware, kitchen items, vases? We have a lot of handpainted wine glasses from a local store that are nice pretty little sets.


DO you guys think it is ok to have like a 1 dolalr table, 3 dollar table, 5 dollar table, etc etc instead of pricing everything individually? The brand new items I do not want to GIVE away, but I do want to sell them. If I have to hold on to them and sell them on Craigslist or ebay I will, but i really do not want to.

I use neon posterboards to make the signs standout. I've never heard of anyone returning something but it can't hurt to hand a sign that says all sales final

Is it weird to sell cans of soda, bottled water? How much should I price it? It's very common here to sell pop for 50-75 cents and water for one dollar. Some even buy a box of packaged muffins or dohnut sticks like the Little Debbie's

This could vary greatly. How many days will you have the sale? If you start a bit high on Saturday you could lower prices on Sunday. Some suggest pricing at half the retail price, but it also depends on your area.

Books go low. Around here hardcovers $1 and paperbacks 25-75 cents

I wouldn't do this!!! SusieQ picks up item X at the 5 dollar table. She comes up to pay and you ask which table did you get this at? And she replies the 3 dollar table! It's better to mark everything unless you think you can memorize where EVERY item is placed. Not to mention you are going to need a potty break and maybe a lunch break. Whoever is helping you may not have a clue how much unmarked items are supposed to cost.


The brand new items I do not want to GIVE away, but I do want to sell them. If I have to hold on to them and sell them on Craigslist or ebay I will, but i really do not want to.

I would make sure to have arrows or more signs all the way from the busy road over to your home. Most people can't really read the signs address as they drive past but turn in knowing its a sale and looking for more signs to show them where to go.

TI-83 graphing calculator - criegslist is your best bet for selling it for the best price, you have to find someone who specifically needs it. We just sold one on creigslist for $45

VHS tapes- $0.50
Disney VHS tapes - $0.50

Books go for around $1 but then people will be choosy...if you want them to really sell $0.50 Haven't seen many books on tape recently I would say maybe around $3 for the cds depending on the book...I don't know for the tapes, my car doesn't even have a tape player

I agree with the previous poster...People will mark their own prices if you don't specifically price each item yourself...And it just makes it easier for everyone else working with you
