Boatwright's at Port Orleans, we have a reservation there and I was wondering if you think it is good? Was thinking of switching to Whispering Canyon. Would you switch

I would absolutely switch. POR is our favorite resort, and we tried Boatwrights for dinner once and it was so terrible. I had about three bites of my jambalaya before I had to stop eating. We said we'd never go back, but heard good things about their breakfast, so on a trip a bit late we tried it. I had the sweet potato pancakes which were great, DH had the breakfast platter that was just 'alright' although he said their potatoes were disgusting. My parents also ate with us and my mother hated it - she had the eggs benedict - and my father got an omelet that he really enjoyed. So, in my opinion, breakfast is a bit better than the dinner there, but definitely go for Whispering Canyon - yummy food and a fun atmosphere! You won't be sorry you switched!

We ate at Boatwright's last February while staying at POFQ. We loved it. It was peaceful and relaxing. DH had prime rib. It was fine. Your basic Disney prime rib. I had some kind of chicken, don't remember what but there were no problems with it at all. We had two DD with us. They we very accommodating to them. The service, in fact, was the best we had at WDW that week. We did WCC a few years ago and also loved it. It's more raucous and fun, especially for kids. I wouldn't be worried about either choice.

When we were there last year, we sent my MIL/FIL there for dinner and a carriage ride for their anniversary. When we picked them up afterwards, they kinda changed the subject when we questioned them about the restaurant. So.....my guess was that it wasn't the greatest.

WC on the otherhand has great food. It is VERY noisy however, so be prepared for that. Not the place to go if you want a quiet dinner.

We really enjoyed Boatwrights. We had our first night dinner there when we stayed at POR in Sept '05, and were very pleased with the food. I really loved the jambalaya, and DH enjoyed the prime rib. The service was fine, not spectacular but not bad either, and after traveling all day, it was great to have a TS meal without having to travel to/from the restaurant. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there on a trip where we're not staying at POR, but I wouldn't hesitate to eat there again if we stay at POR/FQ again in the future.

The breakfast there is good, we ate there twice for breakfast, and each time it was yummy. But, the dinner we had was terrible. We only ate there once for dinner, but that was enough!

Yet another case of getting the whole spectrum of experiences.

I'm one who has had multiple good experiences at Boatwrights, including the jambalaya.

I don't know of any WDW restaurants that are genuinely bad - some may screw up more often than others, and some may not have the food style and decor that interests you, but if the theme and the surroundings interest you, there's a good chance you'll enjoy the place.

The grounds just outside the door are right by the river, so it's a pleasant place to spend an evening.

We've had a couple of very nice dinners there. They were around the Christmas holiday, so I don't know if that matters. The service was very good, with friendly and polite servers. The food was hot, and well prepared.

I'd certainly give it a recommendation.

Hated Whispering Canyon. The food was tepid (one of my pet peeves) and we really didn't like the chaos. :scared1: The server was ok, but pretty slow. We knew better than to ask for ketchup. LOL.

Of the two, I'd say Boatwright's.

So glad to see good things about Boatwrights! We'll be having our first table service meal in Disney ever here for breakfast the morning we check into POR.

When we ate at Boatwrights in Dec. '06 we really enjoyed it and put it on our "must do" restaurants. DH had the pot roast and I had the herb roasted chicken with Boatwright potatoes (yummy!!!!). When we went in May '07 it was again delish and we added the onion rings which were amazing. So for our Oct. '07 trip we made an ADR.

Well.... they changed their menu and gone are the onion rings, the pot roast and chicken. In its place is a lot of seafood type foods and even though DH & I live on the coast and near water we don't like seafood. Add to that the incredibly BAD experience we had while waiting for our ADR and we have now scratched Boatwrights off of our "must do" list and it is on our "not to do ever again" list.

Now WCC on the other hand is still on that "must do" list......

We ate at Boatwright's twice on our January 2007 trip. Once for dinner and once for breakfast. We loved it both times, but really thought the breakfast was some of the best we have had at any WDW meal.

Our son loved the environment of WCC but we were not overly impressed with the food.

I would stick with Boatwright's.

If you are staying at POR, then Boatrights might be a good choice for dinner...but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

We've had dinner and breakfast at Boatrights. We loved the breakfast (sweet potato pancakes and think sausages, yum!) and thought it was pretty reasonably priced for Disney.

Dinner- I had the jambalaya and found the portions to be small and the food was just ok. Nor horrible...we had a pleasant time.

We also thought it was a bit overpriced for the portions (because I would compare it to a WCC, not a more high-end restaurant where the portions tend to be artfully smaller). The actually cost wasn't super-expensive, just didn't think it was a great value. We ended up snacking again later in Downtown Disney.

I'd choose WCC for dinner....WL is a fun place to visit and WCC is an experience!

A Newbie here!

We also ate at Boatwrights in Dec 06 while staying at POR and loved it. Fantastic waiter kept DS9 and DS3 (at the time), and us, entertained. He wasn't there this year unfortunately:mad: . We also liked the CS area (at that time). I must agree though, being there in Dec 07, the CS area's menu changes are something we didnt like, and were very disappointed. Stayed 2 weeks (basically) and only ate there twice (in a hurry). We did eat at Boatwrights though and had a wonderful dinner. Had breaky in '06 and loved the french toast, but did not do breaky there this time so dont know if it is still on the menu. WCC, which we did this year, was a hoot. I wouldn't say it was the best food Ive had, but I did enjoy myself, and so did DW and kids. I would definately go back again. Although, a life long friend that was with us, who is, oh....lets say very thin on top (Oh alright, totally BALD), was a little upset at being referred to as "Shiny" HE may not return. LOL:rotfl2:
Seriously, he did have a good time and laughed and joked thru the whole thing, no hard feelings, pretty fun time.

Interesting thread:thumbsup2

We are thinking of trying Boatwrights when we go in Nov 08. Keep the reviews coming!

Like all Disney Restaurants it get it's good and bad reviews.

I think you have to like the flavors of southern cooking when eating at this restaurant.
