Have you used points for the Disney Collection and then been sorry you did?

Hello Everyone,

I was thinking of using the last of my points to secure a last "surprise" night for the girls and was thinking of the Contemporary. But for the points we could stay another night in a 1 bdrm.

Have you done this and been disappointed that you "wasted" you points?

We used points for a one night stay at the contempary on our 25th wedding anniversary trip. I dont regret it thats where we stayed for our honeymoon It was great. Its not some thing I would do often but for a special memory it was the best

We used extra points that came with our resale purchase to stay at AKL (including concierge one night so we could do the Safari), and were glad we used points - because we'd probably never go back and pay cash.

Beth I would stay here in an instant if the safari was offered on a Monday Morning but it's not and the airfare has been purchased.

Thanks! I know what you mean about not staying in such places on $$. We are planning to surprise the girls with and stay an extra day. They won't know until the last minute.

But would have rather had surprised then with the Sunrise Safari.

Oh well maybe next time.

We have used points for the AKL SV and concierge SV as well as YC. We are booked at GC at DL this September on points. The first AKL, in 2002, was a use them or lose them proposition with an add-on that could not be banked. The trade was expensive but it was better than losing the points. AKL SV was great fun. The AKL concierge last year worked out to be about even with the AP code so we thought it a good trade. The YC was a holding account reservation that had to be used and actually worked out quite nicely. The GC at DL in September traded at about a 20% discount off of the best room rate I could find on the internet so we were pleased with that trade.

Note, we value our points at what they cost us. We could have done better if we rented the points and paid cash. In our opinion it is not worth the effort to rent for the dollars involved.

We used points for a one night stay before our cruise at the AKL concierge level. We had no plans to go to the parks so we were able to spend the entire day enjoying the resort and all it has to offer. I have no regrets for spending our points this way; the resort is magnificent!

I bought into DVC for the flexibility to do fun things like use the Disney Collection. I am surprising my dear family , especially safari loving, Jiko wine list loving DH, w/ 2 nights of Concierge after our cruise in June 2006 (Oh, please make the days go faster.) We will pay cash for one night & use points for the other b/c the Sat. night cash w/ a AAA discount will be a better value than DVC. They'll never suspect b/c we will be packing an extra separate suitcase for our 2-3 night trip to VWL before the cruise, so we'll already have all our WDW stuff in a separate bag. I'll throw in extra clothes, my DH will grumble , & I'll just play stupid saying I double packed on accident.

Just look at your options carefully (cash v. points) and then splurge to have fun. You bought into this DVC thing to have fun--just do it!

We've used our points to stay at AK the month they opened & we got bumped up to a deluxe savannah room b/c of our DVC status. You can't count on this happening, but I have heard of this rare phenomena happening to other people. You never know what might happen.

We used them to stay at the Poly the night we had PS for the luau. Got wasted and had no problem finding our way home!
We also used them for a stay at CS when we couldn't match up airfares with our OKW stay.
We don't regret having used points that way. Just look at it as "Okay, been there, done that, what's next?" I'm sure we'll have to do it again ... just to save a few bucks on airfare.

Thanks everyone. Well I did it, I booked CR Tower for one last night surprise for the girls (now if I can just keep my big mouth shut that long and not blow it).

Might change it for the GF? But who knows.
