Have You Turned On Your Heat Yet?

Maryland here. No heat yet, although we have had a fire in the fireplace twice...at the dogs insistence!
I just checked my thermostat and it's 68 in here & we are comfortable. We don't have a set date or a set temperature when the heat goes on. We also have a fireplace (wood) we use often although not in lieu of the heater, more like we just like to have a fire in the evening. Plus we replaced the wood stove in the basement w/ a pellet stove, and that helps heat the main floor as well.
No matter when we turn the heat on I always get sick, so that is my reluctance in turning it on more so than a particular date or temp.

Now I know we all live in vastly different geographic regions, but I live in southern Indiana and it seems to be a “thing” to try to hold out until November 1st to turn on the heat.

Personally, I don’t care what the date is, if it gets below about 66 in the house, the heat is going on. Ours went on for the first time last week. It kicks on some in the morning but not much after that.

Next week it is supposed to get back up close to 80 for a day or two, so the a/c might get turned back on. :D

So, do you have a date you try to hold out for to turn on the heat?
I WISH I needed heat.
It's 95 degrees here today (southern California). Nights are finally getting cooler so I put my fan in the window for the cool 66 degree wind!

I'm not sure we've "used" any heat yet, but I set the thermostats to 55. It's going to be dipping down into the 40s at night and I don't want it to be terribly cold in the house in the mornings; I don't really know if the heat has kicked on overnight or not yet. We are just north of Bangor, Maine.

Put the heat on downstairs which we started doing a few years ago.
Downstairs is half underground so it gets chilly when the nights
start dipping below 55 or so.
Took the window A/C's out today upstairs.

Nope..I also try and leave it off as long as possible. I am in Mid Michigan. I like sleeping in a cold room so I even have my window open at night still. Our daytime temps are still 50-60 s and our coldest night was mid 40s so far. As long as I am up working around the house I am plenty warm..if I sit to watch tv or read a lap blanket does the trick.

I always turn mine on early to make sure everything works. I would rather find out now then when it’s freezing and everyone is calling for repairs. I have turned mine in twice so far each time for a few hours to take the dampness out of the house.

Cincinnati weather has been all over the place but I'm not turning on the heat just yet. I have blankets, hoodies and dogs to keep me warm. My gas & electric bill has gone up too much since the spring so I won't turn the heat on until I can't take it. I still have my windows opened so my first attempt to warm the house up would be to close those.

Yes. I have no "rules" about turning on the heat. If I'm cold, I'll turn it on to take the chill off. Sometimes we have the heat on in the morning and the AC on in the afternoon.

Central Florida: If we get a hard freeze warning, I will turn on the heat for the whole house. Otherwise, it's only a small floor heater in the master bedroom when it gets below ~63 degrees.

The furnace has been on just once so far to test it for the season but we also have a gas fireplace that we occasionally turn on for a few minutes usually in the morning to take the chill out of the house. We’re in northern Ohio.

Think this topic was discussed recently in another thread. When we turn on the AC/Heat isn't related to the calendar and has more to do with how hot/cold it is outside. Rather be comfortable when indoors, but apparently some try to use the calendar as a way to save money on their heating/cooling bill.

Not quite. The indoor temp has gotten down to the low 60's, but pajamas and slippers do the trick.

We usually have it set to 62 year round.. up here in Mass the nights have been in the upper 40's lately., so house has been sitting at 66 most nights. Perfect sleeping temp. :)
