Have you traveled with a baby?

Just looking to see how many of you have traveled home with a baby? I just gave birth to our little Disneymoon souvenir and we will be traveling back home in January with him and our other 2 children (13/7). Just looking for best tips/advice y'all might have I have gone with a 2 year old but never an infant! Looking forward to our trip, but a bit nervous.

I am taking my 7 month old in 2 weeks to Disney World for thanksgiving. It is the best time to go. Will let you know how I make out.

We took my son for a short trip at 10 months old and a longer trip for his 1st birthday.

Comparing the 2 trips, the biggest thing we learned was to bring a comfortable stroller. Since we took a plane on the short trip, we brought a small stroller (I think they are called Umbrella strollers?). We drove on the 2nd trip and brought a larger stroller.

He was much happier in the large stroller since he could nap whenever he wanted. Not to mention the mobile storage space it gave us.

My first trip to WDW was with my oldest dd when she was just 10 months old. We are going back in Jan with oldest dd who will be 5 and our newest who will be 10 months old at that time.

They are highly portable at that age! Honestly I thought it was great cause dd wasn't walking yet so she was content to sit in the stroller or in our laps and look at everything. there are a ton of rides that they can sit on your lap for.

I second the suggestion of the comfortable stroller. Definitely bring one that reclines nearly flat so the baby can sleep on the go and the older kids won't be tied to the baby's schedule. I also recommend adding a sunshade that will darken the stroller, amazon.com has quite a few to choose from very cheap.

My other recommendation would be a carry sling of some sort. Find one that is comfortable for both you and your dh if you can so you can take turns wearing the baby. Standing in a long line trying to hold a baby in just your arms without any extra support would be very, very tiring on your poor arms.

The baby is only going to be 3 months old (actually, just under that), so we plan on bringing his ergo carrier, as well as his comfy stroller, he's to small for an umbrella one just yet

Went to Disney with my 2 month old son. Had two older kids (5,9). We went in August, and it was to hot for him, I thought. It worked out fine. Took him for naps in the afternoon, when the kids went swimming. Also I took advantage of the baby spots. Forgot what their called, but you can change diapers, feed them, breastfeed. Their really nice, when its 90 degrees out.

We went with each of our four children when they were between 8-12 weeks old and those were some of the easiest trips with them. (Now that they're much older they complain A LOT ). We used a maya wrap (similar to an Ergo) and car seat/stroller and had a great time. The maya was especially helpful in keeping strangers from reaching out to touch the babies' chubby cheeks. Be sure to stay hydrated, keep baby hydrated and take breaks as needed.

That's a perfect idea. We just took our 9 month old (+2 older sisters), and we actually found that it was easier to carry the baby in the Ergo most of the time, rather than have her in the stroller - she was in a "not wanting to sit by herself" stage (so often cried if we put her in the stroller), and if she did fall asleep in the stroller, then we couldn't bring her onto rides without waking her up - so either we'd have to interrupt her on-the-go nap, or someone would have to stay off the ride - with the Ergo, provided it was a baby friendly ride, we could just walk right on!

You also may want to talk to your pediatrician about sun protection options, since general advice is not to put sunscreen on a child younger than 6 months. I haven't been to WDW in January, but we have been in December and did need sunscreen for ourselves then.

We took my 2 month old nephew in July and it was totally fine. I held him in the baby bjorn most of the time and he slept. Also, the baby care centers are great. You can stop in there for changing/nursing/feeding. He would sleep in the stroller as well. I guess it depends on your baby though, he wasn't fussy at all though.

Thanks everyone! I was half expecting to get booed for taking such a young child to wdw lol! To the poster who mentioned sunblock, the ergo has a nifty sun canopy! It covers baby like a hood almost!

I was more thinking of arms and legs, if it ends up being warm enough to not have baby in long pants and long sleeves. Maybe the baby legs cool that have UV protection?

If I remember correctly he'll still be in the infant insert in the ergo.... Guess I should look tgat up

We went last year when our youngest was 4 months old and he was so easy! Depending on the baby, they're much easier than older ones IMO. He was in the carrier 90% of the time, sleeping, nursing or just enjoying the sights. Have fun!

Our first with-kids Disney trip had a barely 3 year old and a 2 month old. The 2 month old was MUCH easier than the 3 year old! She hung out in the sling all day. The only way she slowed us down were the diaper changes, as she was still doing the 8 poops a day at that age. We had a single stroller with recline in case she needed it. But she didn't so we used the stroller for the older child and to hold our stuff.

We were there in May and so I made an effort to keep her shaded as much as possible. Her arms and legs were in the sling, so it was only her head I had to worry about. I did have a hat for her too, but was able to keep her in the shade most of the time.

Infants are easier than the toddlers!! LOL!!

DS made his first trip at 5 months, DD was 4 at the time. He loved it and was super easy! My DH carried him alot in our front carrier which he loved looking around at everything. I breastfed him so no need to carry any food, bottles etc... I was so worried before going at how stressful it was going to be with an infant. Well he was much easier at that age than when he got older and became a toddler and preschooler!!

Good point, I forgot the ergo had an infant insert. The beco Gemini we have didn't require an insert for infants
