Have you taken Amtrak to Disney?

I'm considering the idea of taking Amtrak to Disney instead of driving...due to the high cost of gas. Has anyone done this before? How do you get from the train station to Disney and how much would it cost? We're staying at the Wilderness Lodge so don't really need to rent a car. Taxi maybe? Would it cost an arm and a leg?

Thanks!

We have done the train before it was very nice. We used a Limo Service It was around $125.00 round trip. It was nice not to have to drive any on vacation.:cool1: :cool1:

We have been using regular Amtrak for the past 10 years to WDW, we board in northeast Ohio to Kissimmee Florida. The cost of a cab from the Kissimmee Amtrak station is 35-38.00 one way plus tip. I do not care to drive to WDW nor am I into flying so that leaves me the train. For us it's about 27 hours and round trip for 2 at a cost of 450.00. we sometimes get a roomette for the DC to Kissimmee leg, includes all meals and the food is good but if out of pocket expensive. We do pack a lunch with alot of snacks and goodies but its just me and the wife, our children are grown. Train travel is very peaceful but if you're not into reading, puzzles or electronic games, sort of boring. I love it, peace, serenity ,calm no stress and poof, you're in Florida. Ask away, I love talking Amtrak and a Disney trip.

I have taken Amtrak to WDW many times and I love the train! It's so much fun to be on a train and going through different towns and states. It's always fun when you get into FL and get closer and closer to WDW.

I do agree with the poster above that if you're not into puzzles, reading even doing some craft work (cross stitching is what I love to do on the train) than it does get long. I've taken my portable DVD player with me on the train and that has helped to pass the time.

It's fun! It's worth doing once at least! :)

Thanks so much for the replies so far! So...you take the train into Kissimmee and not Orlando? I think I was looking at schedules into Orlando.
I love to read and the kids like video games, etc.. so I'm not worried about the amount of time on the train. We'd be driving otherwise and you have the same problem there, too. Thanks for all your input! Keep it coming!

I've taken the train to Orlando only. The reason is we were told in Philly where we leave from that they don't unload luggage in Kissimmee. If that's incorrect please post and let the OP know.

:)

As far as I know they unload baggage in Kissimmee. We detrain in Kissimmee, one stop further than Orlando because its less congested, a ton of people get off in Orlando turning that station into a frenzy. Boarding there to return home is worse, I've been there once when a hurricane closed the route south of there and we couldn't board in Kissimmee and the people waiting to board coach was very very long and took 30-45 minutes to get them all on board, murder in the Florida sun, we had a roomette coming home and only 6 people boarded sleeper car. Kissimmee is closer to WDW, fare is 35-38 bucks to MK resorts and takes 20 minutes. Others claim that by the time the train gets to Kissimmee, people that got off in Orlando would be in WDW already. regardless, I'ld rather deal with 10 people detraining than 100 and everyone looking for baggage, rental, shuttle bus etc, just a small cab line at the Kissimmee depot and baggage for 10 people is fast and quick, we're out of that station in about 5 minutes.

Big problem for alot of people on the train is the lack of electricial outlets, like only one per car so take alot of batteries for hand held games and a spare battery for a DVD player. Watching out the window of a train is sheer magic compared to a car and a roomette that sleeps only 2, upper and lower, that my wife likes is the big window in the upper that she watches the lights, stars and towns go by while falling asleep. In the am, its breakfast and the pulling into Kissimmee around 11-12, train is always late, sometimes alot or a couple of hours. Some stops along the way take up extra time but sometimes its right on schedule. Pleasant way to see the countryside and day dream about life, and going home a good way to relax them weary bones from a hectic Disney vacation.
