For those of you who have stayed at the Poly, which longhouse were you in, what was your view, and what were the pros and cons of your location?
THANKS TO ALL WHO REPLY!!!

We stayed in what is now Tahiti (was Moorea) back in 2000. We had a lagoon view (castle view). It was awesome. This was before they renovated the rooms so it must be even better now. We had a great view of the castle from our room and bed. We could lie in bed at night and watch the castle change colors as we fell asleep! There was also a beach right in front of the building.

The only possible downside could be that we were one of the furthest buildings from the main ceremonial house. It was not a bad walk at all, and the grounds are sooo nice that it is well worth it. We were actually really close to the TTC so you could walk there if you wanted also.

The poly is great! You are going to love it.

For our 2004 stay, we had a financial windfall that made it possible for us to try concierge. We stayed in Hawaii, had a Garden View (quiet pool) 1st floor patio and were very close to the Concierge complex end. It was great view and we loved being able to sit out on the lanai while the kids could easily walk to the quiet pool.

In 2006, we stayed in Rarotonga and were very close to the end that faced the GCH. We also had a 1st floor patio that faced the quiet pool.

I liked the Rarotonga location best because it was more convenient to more things. The GCH and the Volcano Pool were close enough, without either being too noisy in our room. A walk down the hall to other end found us right at the Bus Stop, and a manageable walk to the TTC. As mentioned, the quiet pool was right outside our back door. However, strategic landscaping still ensured our privacy.

I am interested to hear of any other Rarotonga guests who have had a balcony to see how that would be different.

Aloha!

We stayed at the Poly in Nov 06. Had an awsome time. A few nights there was live entertainment:rockband: with Hula Dancers and a singer. (Highly Recommend) Kids loved the pool. If your wore out from the days events, you can relax on the beach and watch the fireworks from the MK.:tinker:

Have a Blast!

Our first visit was Tokelau...loved it. No cons. It was close to the GCH and not too, too far from the TTC. We had a GV room but to the side of our balcony it was actually lagoon. So that was a plus.

Our second visit we were in Aeortora (sp?) Again, not too far from the GCH, but I didn't like being on the first floor here because it was right on the path to the luau and although it wasn't noisy if you had your door shut, if you wanted to sit on the patio you had no privacy as everyony stared on their way to the luau...lol

Our third stay was Samoa. LOVED the location! Right by the pool and GCH. I would say this is the best location.

This year we have requested Tokelau or Samoa.

Our first stay was in Tahiti, MK view, AWESOME, the only con was it was a bit of a walk to the GCH. A major pro was basically your own "private" beach!

Our second stay was Hawaii, MK view, AWESOME, the only con was the cost! Pros were LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, pool, right outside, GCH steps away!

We always ask for Samoa, pros close to GCH, easy access to monorail and captain cooks, short walk to bus and short walk to beach and both quiet and volcano pools. We have had lst floor volcano pool view, excellent, my kids favorite of all. Just make sure you keep your shade shut for privacy. We really didnt notice too much people traffic, maybe just the time of year we stay. Also had 3rd floor Samoa, terrible view. all we could see was the top of the tree tops and a view of the Hawaii bldg.
Hawaii- had conceirge - lst floor. View laying on the bed was huge tree trunk. Many problems with room. Too far from lounge etc.
Aeotora (sp?) Didnt request this. All they had left. Our view was of the monorail. I did hear the swishing. My ds liked to watch it. I told them Only, Only after we were dressed. No pulling the curtain open, lol . The rooms were nice and big and sunny. Did encounter the luau traffic going back to the room once. The ds complained it was only too far from the room when the got out of the pool, o.k. it was feb. and it was freezing at night. Otherwise, it was an o.k. location. It would also be closer to the marina if you wanted to do the boat transportation to the mk for a change.
Also have stayed in Niuie several times but due to ds asthma and its smoking we cant stay there anymore. Very close to gch. If you are smokers it would be o.k.for you.

We were in Tokelau, ground floor, and had a view of the quiet pool. We were very close to Captain Cooks too. Event though we faced a pool, the room was very quiet. The only noise we heard were the fireworks, and I thought that was neat.

We were in the Tahiti longhouse, room 1028. We had a Magic Kingdom view which was awesome!

Pros: Close to TTC

Cons: Far from GCH, Volcano Pool

We've always stayed in Samoa - 3rd floor - Volcano Pool side and have had the same room (3606) for 3 years. It is a beautiful view because it is directly across from the Volcano and you can see the Fiji building, the Volcano pool, the Grand Floridian, lagoon and the monorail passing in the distance.

The only con may be for people who are going to sleep at 9:00/10:00 because there can be people still swimming at that hour especially since 10:00 is when Wishes goes off and people tend to stay out there until it's over. We were only in the room at that hour the 1st night we arrived and did hear some noise but it really didn't bother us too much.

We were in Tokelau, room 3909 (3rd floor). Close to the GCH and not far from the TTC. We had a garden view room but could see the beach a little from our balcony. We were facing the quiet pool and didn't hear noise, the only things we heard were the fireworks and sometimes the boats.

It was awesome :)

Hawaii...garden view. 3rd floor, we had a view of the quiet pool and lovely palm trees! We barely used our balcony last year because last season was from h*ll with lovebugs...but the view was very pretty. Room 3530.

Pros: Concierge, Hawaii is a great location, right on the beach, close enough to lobby, right by the Volcano pool but set back a bit so not as noisy.

Cons: We didn't have Lagoon view!

We stayed in Tokelau main floor. Garden View. Loved it!!

Pros: my son loved feeding the ducks in the morning. He could run around on the grass while we sat on our patio. Half way between GCH and TTC. Bus stop just outside the door. Very Quiet and they were doing construction on the next bulding. Couldn't hear it from our room.

Cons: none.

Can't wait to go back in Jan 2008.

Stayed in Tokelau as well with DD. 2nd floor pool view.

I agree with what everyone said above. Good location - close to the quiet pool and GCH, not far from TTCand we could see the lagoon from the side of our balcony.

Requested tokelau again for this year.

We stayed 3rd floor Samoa, facing the volcano pool- corner room. We were able to see the GF and part of the Electric water pagent.
Very conveniently located near the GCH. Not too far from boat dock and a short walk to the TTC.

We stayed in Fiji. We were on the 3rd floor, overlooking the beach, monorail and Grand Floridian Wedding Pavillion. It was a nice view, we all really enjoyed being able to see the monorail, and that part of the beach was always empty (no guests). *Just a word of "advice": be prepared to not get the view you request. We went in early November, and I really thought at that time of year, we would get one of our 3 building requests. We didn't. I was disappointed at check-in, but not when I got to our room. I had asked and asked about what building to request, but wasn't really mentally prepared for none of these to be available. Sometimes, what we end up with can be just as good as what we asked for. We had a wonderful vacation!

Sometimes, what we end up with can be just as good as what we asked for.

I'm starting to come to that conclusion. Sounds like there are many wonderful rooms for many different and equally wonderful reasons! I am fully expecting to get Raratonga parking lot view, as that is just my luck, but unless that is indeed what I get, sounds like I'll be happy anywhere with anything!
Thanks to all who have replied so far. Everyone else, please keep the replies coming!

I'm a Fiji man... Can't go wrong with the view from either side of the building for a 'garden view' price.
Pros - take your pick, its the Poly for goodness sake!
Cons - 2nd floor has 'false' balconies

Good luck!! :)
