Have you stayed at all the on-site DL hotels? Advice please!

We just completed a stay at the DLH. While it is very nice and clean (sierra tower room was much bigger than bonita tower), and very convenient, I don't think we'll be staying again unless its at a lesser price.

I would be just as happy across the main gate in a bigger room/suite with included breakfast for a family of 5 at a lesser rate. Due to the busy week last week, early entry did not help us. It may have been nice if the crowds weren't so bad.

We may try GC if we can get the AP4 rate. I walked through the lobby there and it was absolutely gorgeous.

DLH only had a mini fridge, no microwave and no coffee maker. We had to eat 3 meals a day outside the hotel. (Room service is available, but is pricey, with automatic 19% gratuity added + a room delivery charge).

Again, for a family of my size, a bigger room with a kitchen would have been nice, since we were there for a week.

In a nutshell we are looking to stay in an on-site hotel that will offer a clean decent sized room with some Disney touches. If anyone can give me their experiences I would truly appreciate it. Thanks!

We stayed at PP last June during our 1st DL trip and had a fabulous time. The rooms were very nice--clean and well maintained. We loved that the couch could be converted into a twin bed--it was perfect for DS and allowed DH and I to each have our own bed. The walk wasn't bad, especially if you cut through the GC.

We paid something like $150 per night for our room last year--the rates have increased dramatically based on the quotes we got for our return trip in June. Unless some amazing deal comes up, we're actually planning on staying at one of the good neighbor hotels. They're even closer to the main gates and about 1/3 of the cost.

We stayed at the DLH once and thought it was nice. The grounds and waterfalls are very pretty there, and our sons loved playing with the remote control boats. We were in the Marina tower (not sure what the new name is, but it's the tower where the check-in desk is located), and our room had a nice view of the Neverland pool. The room was definately clean and we never had a problem with housekeeping. The decor of the room was pleasant but kinda blah. I wish the decor was more 'in your face' Disney instead of being so subtle. Our room was very spacious, and luckily we had a room with a big sink/vanity and dressing area outside of the bathroom. That was great!

Our oldest son enjoyed swimming in the Neverland pool and using the slide, but since he was only 4.5 years old at the time, the lifeguard made him take a little swim test before he could use the slide. Luckily he could swim fairly well for a 4 year old, but I can see that if you had a little one who couldn't, it would make for a BIG disappointment not to be able to use the slide.

Last year we stayed at the PPH. It was very nice as well. Our room was spacious and very clean. It had a view overlooking the pool area and slide, as well as a parking area. The decor was very cheerful and made our stay a little more magical. Now the pool area is certainly not elaborately themed in anyway, and the pool itself looks just like your 'basic' hotel pool, but we LOVED it. Our kids particularly enjoyed the 180' waterslide and kids pool there. Being that the waterslide empties riders into a shallow catch trough instead of a pool, there's no swimming required, so there's no swim test. Needless to say, even our then three year old (our youngest), who can't swim yet, could go down the 'Big Slide' as much as he wanted. It was so much easier to watch them there, and DH and I were able to put our feet up and relax while our kids splish-splashed to their hearts content. It was our first Disneyland trip where we were able to sit back and actually relax and unwind. It was so GREAT.

Needless to say we're returning to the PPH this year at the end of the month. We can hardly wait! But, when our youngest ,who is now 4, is able to swim on his own, we'll certainly go back to the DLH, and hopefully be able to afford the GCH too someday. (when we win the lottery )
