have you seen this -- gate check stroller bag

Very good idea. After seeing our new Maclaren slide down and off the loading ram onto the fithy concrete and rip the sunshield, we will buy this today.

Do you have to use a bag? I've seen lots of strollers just sitting at the airplane door when we have boarded the plane. I guess I assumed they put them back at same spot when getting off the plane. Do you mean they come back to you on luggage carousel? Do that means we'll have to carry her and the car seat all the way to luggage carousel?

Super idea--wish they had this back in our stroller days!

Snow White--gate checked strollers do get put back on the jetway. They just aren't always handled very well.

How nice - I wish we would have had this instead of the black bag we used last year - I didn't want the stroller to get damaged so I bought a black bag for it - of course, they thought it was golf clubs and it didn't come back to the gate - what a disaster at 11PM with a toddler and a carseat - we ended up using a wheelchair to get to baggage claim !!!

Oooh, that would save our stroller from ripping or being bent each tie it's checked. Thanks.

I took our umbrella strollers 3 years ago to disneyland and we were able to check them at the airline door, they were waiting for us as we walked off the plane to use in the airport. They were big double ones too. I would rather do that then risk them going through the baggage claim.

I made rip-stop sleeves for mine that leave the wheels exposed so that I can roll them down the jetway folded. They are neon-colored, and I've stenciled on the outside: "BABY BUGGY - DELIVER TO GATE"

You could easily stencil any kind of bag or cover that you cared to use.

NotUrsula - that sounds like a great idea - any chance you can post a pic or instructions of how you made your covers? I have used a clear plastic storage (under the bed type) bag the last couple of trips, but they only make it through one trip and have to be bunjee corded on - last trip even the bunjee cords were lost!!

You don't, but I use a bag similar to the one that the OP is showing because it protects my MacClaren that I spent too much money on. When you gate check the strollers they don't/shouldn't come off on the luggage carousel. One of these bags would be great if you did check the stroller with your luggage.

This is such a great idea. Our stroller bag is navy blue and 90% of the time we have to wait at the gate for them to find it because they thought is was regular luggage! I even stopped using it on our last flight because of the hassle!

The reason many opt for a stroller bag is that the strollers handed over at the gate are not treated with the upmost care. One time the removable foot rest for DD stroller was missing and lost. It also keeps it clean... my light colored stroller was usually always given back with grimy dirt stains, and once even scratched up.

When you put it in a bag like the one in OP, you can still drop it off at the gate, and the clear markings on the bag will hopefully guarantee that it will be put with the other strollers and not confused with with the checked luggage.

Both times I gate checked strollers they came back w/ rips in the foam handles-GRRRRRRRRRRR! I'm not only getting that bag but also bubblewrapping the handles before I hand it over. I just bought an Inglesina Swift which I really like and will be soooo sad if it gets destroyed on the plane.

We got a Chico Capri ($60 at Babies 'R Us) a couple months ago--what I'd call a nice umbrella stroller--to use when we take the Princess granddaughter in just 28 more days (hooray!). It came with a zippered bag for transportation that we're planning to put it in for gate check. Do you think that will probably be good enough to prevent problems? thanks!

off topic here I know but this is so why I have posted a few times about not checking carseats. The way our luggage is handled would definitely be hard on them....these kind of posts definitely confirm what I suspected but had no first hand knowledge about.

at least luggage is better protected(a little) and it may be tossed about but it's less likely to be dragged and damaged by tossing than an unprotected stroller. i think they let them bang all the way down the stairs and they fold them up when they may not do so properly, then toss them right in the hold. my carseat is in a bag with a lot of clothing for shock absorption and i always try to check for damage--but i still feel safer w/my own carseat than a rental.
these bags aren't the end-all-be-all for protection but better than nothing, i'm still going to protect the handles this time!!!!!

That's great! Looks like a Peg Perego Pliko P3 stroller in there (same as mine) I always worry about getting a cover and it NOT being able to fit.

:woohoo: Thanks for the link.
