Well, I don't bowl, but it occurs to me that what everyone is describing are various forms of oxfords. Saddle oxfords are just that - a form of oxford. And bowling shoes, from what I've googled, are a psuedo oxford. . .
Oxfords have a nice long distinguished history as a dress shoe. They're all I remember my father wearing except on vacation until the mid 1980's. I'm thinking they'll be cute on days I dress down and wear chinos at work, just to mix it up with my boat shoes.
