Built in 1892 to prove how rich the soil is in the region, the world's only corn palace has bben drawing visitors for 100 years. Shaped like a castle topped with minarets, the palace is upholstered on the exterior with corn, grain, and grass. I'm sure the birds love this place.

A friend went by there a few years ago and brought back pictures. Looked very interesting.

I lived in Rapid City, SD and we drove a long way to see the palace and was a little disappointed. only the outside walls are made of corn with different design each year and then a theater seating plac insid for basketball games and such. I would not go again and maybe never would have gone the first time

Aren't there some old time DISer's that know a lot about the Corn Palace????? ;) ;)

Anyone know where that "canned corn at WDW" picture is?? AAhhhh-the good old days! :)

lol, I thought this was a reference post about the corn people!! Corn will never be the same!

CindysGusGus-I thought the same thing!!!

BTW-I love your tag . They played that 6 Flags song on DCL this summer. We finally found out the name of the song after spotting a small newspaper article about it. :)

Yes, I've been there. It's interesting. It's in Mitchell, SD. I went to college in Sioux Falls.

:bored: That is one of the most boring places my parents ever took us.

we went there last summer on our vacation out west. it was sooooo boring. we didnt even take the tour and i thought it was boring. the best part was when we were at the gift-shop i looked over at a basket of corn to be scooped and used to make popcorn and a mouse was in there rooting around :earseek: :earseek: that made my day and we got out as fast as possible ;) :p

OMG how funny to see this. Our Boy Scout Troop was just there , it was one of the many stops to get the boys out of the cars for a while. They were on their way to the Medicine Mountain Boy Scout Camp in the Black Hills.

We stopped there back in 1993 when we were moving to Seattle. One of the most boring places ever to take a 17 year old!!!! I can't say I was that impressed and at that point in my life I would have rather been anywhere else. :)

I went there in 1978......yep, I was 10 and my parents made me. My mom has relatives that live in South Dakota and it was the one time we went there. My mom said they always went there so we were going to go too. We went to a bunch of different places because we drove. I think I learned at that age that I need to vacation somewhere far enough away to take a plane!

:teeth:

I wasn't even on the boards for the "corn people" and the first thing that I thought of was are they talking about the place where the corn people ate on the steps?
