Have you read Mousejunkies?

When we finally are able to meet up some day, Billy, I will have to have you autograph my copy.

Congrats, ChefBilly! Your work deserves to be recognized. It is a WDW feel good book for sure, Micca!

And CB, would I steer you wrong???

Mare, you enjoy reading it. I bet your DH will also enjoy it.

Dan, what do you think?

Y'all know it gets the "Buckalew" stamp of approval!! ;)

OK, I just read the article. I didn't know you were laid off when you wrote the book. That is wonderful...you were given lemons and made lemonade!!

I see Borders will be promoting this book in the Fall. That is very cool!

I also see you brother is going to Nashville. I have a friend in the music industry in nashville. Very cool. Maybe you could let me know how he does with that.

It is a great book, Buck. Hey, that almost rhymes. :lmao:

Billy, you have to see what you can do to get WDW and DL to carry it, like DIS'er Steven Barrett and his Hidden Mickey's books. I bet he sells a ton of them there. And where is Steven, have not seen him in ages here, though have several times at Mousefest, good guy?

Mare, you enjoy reading it. I bet your DH will also enjoy it.
Bren, reading it with a cold  turned out to be a not so good idea. Teary eyes, sneezing, a face that was killing me (and you too, right? It was a sinus infection!) and meds that made me conk out (:thumbsup2). Then when I could stand upright again, I went right into obsessive packing for my OL. (Me and packing = :scared:) So, I'm packing the book, and will go back to reading it before I leave if I have time, or on my trip, if I don't. So far so good tho! :thumbsup2

Will read that article too! Congrats Billy! I like Dan's idea of an autographed copy! I'm just "down the road" in RI. :teeth:

I just got this from Amazon.com and I am waiting to read it til my plane trip next week. I hope I can hold out that long!

I have a cousin named Steven Barrett! I haven't spoken to him in over 20 years, I doubt it's him, but what a coincidence!

One thing I love is that no one here says "...I thought it was too..." or "they got *** all wrong." These folks love WDW like we all do so what are we going to complain about?:)

So glad everyone is enjoying their copy. Congrats to the Mousejiunkies team.:earsboy:

I just finished Mousejunkies and loved it! Kudos on a book well written, ChefBilly!

got my copy of Mousejunkies - planning to read it on my flight next week to vegas (DH's "happy place")

I read it; I liked it. Laughed out loud at one point.

Got me thinking about Disney so much that I scheduled a trip. Like I needed an excuse, but still...

Didn't know before that the author was a DISer (I speed-scan threads sometimes.) Way to go!!!! :cheer2:

I'm more than half-way through the book. It's a quick read, and a good read. But there are some basic errors in it (which probably says more about me than anything.) MNSSHP is not $40, it opens at 7 not 6, F&W samples are more between $3-6 than $1-3 and the character's name is Meeko, not Miko. If there's a second edition that's published, I'd go back through and correct some of these things.

For someone not reading the book for "tips" it's fun reading about how other people get obsessed too. But for someone looking to go on their first or second trip, I couldn't in good faith recommend the book, too many things are overlooked (the resort section skips over Coronado Springs, Fort Wilderness, Wilderness Lodge, the Polynesian, and Grand Floridian) and there are things that are just incorrect.

Sorry if it's the unpopular opinion, but I saw this thread and checked the book out of my local library...I just feel that it's fair to give an accurate representation.

Though I loved the section on bathrooms...far too many guidebooks overlook something so important!!

onelilspark, there was a brief section on Fort Wilderness in the book. It's my favorite non-DVC resort. There is also a longer write-up on the Mousejunkies website. I'm hoping Bill includes it in the sequel (hint, hint). I suspect that one of the reasons the other resorts were left out is that none of the Mousejunkies have stayed there at the time of writing or if they did, they may not have found them notable.

I also believe that some of the errors are out-of-date information. It's a pretty common problem with travel books, I think. Given the long lead time from writing to publishing, things are bound to change. But the Meeko thing is just a silly mistake, and I think the idea of being served food by costumed character was Bill being funny.

But you're right, this book is not necessarily appropriate as the only book a potential or new Mousejunkie should read. Other books give much more detailed and complete information to first- or second-time Disney visitors. I have three or four Birnbaum's guides, myself, and a rather frightening list of travel planning bookmarks on my web browser. However, most travel books are meant to be purely objective and fact-based. They'll give you price ranges, a few descriptive phrases and let you figure the rest out on your own. I've always thought "Mousejunkies" was more about opinions and anecdotes- like a friend who goes to WDW a lot telling you about the awesome vacation they just had. I believe that's how it's marketed and I think it does that quite well. Though I have to admit, I'm more than just a little biased.;)

You're right, there's a small write up about Fort Wilderness, but there's not the detail with the other resorts. (I've now finished it and there IS a listing of all the resorts in the back.) If I were writing a book that included the subtitle "Tips, Tales, and Tricks for a Disney World Fix" I would make it a point to cover all the resorts, staying at least one night at all of them...call it research ;)

Maybe my expectations were too high. But I agree, it is like reading a friend's report of how they see Disney. As I mentioned, I think the fact that I can read through a book and pick out honestly really small errors without even thinking about them tells you more about me than it does the book. :rotfl:

I just felt with all the really exceptionally positive reviews that it was worth my time to post that while overall I liked it, I wasn't blown away because I felt it could be better. And well, maybe that's just because I am a Mousejunkie!!

I got the book out of the library and finished it today. Then I found this thread. I thought the book was good, nice light easy read.

When my husband saw the title he said it described me.

I just read the book cover to cover in the last 10 hours (UPS delivered it at 11 am this morning)! It was very entertaining and informative. That should hold me off until my next trip. :)
