Have you heard this Tortuga Tavern theory before?
Has Disney ever clarified the backstory? I would love a cast member to give their opinion/knowledge on the subject. Thanks. :-)pirate:🏝:boat:🏴‍☠️🇯🇲🇭🇹🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Can you summarize the theory?
Starting at the 6 minute mark of the video, the vlogger talks about Arabella Smith and makes a case for her being Will Turner’s mom from Potc and how it ties into the ride’s female pirate Red scene. Did you watch the video? Just curious, not trying to be mean. pirate: 🏴‍☠️:-)

No. No time to watch a 15 min video. I think most people haven’t replied to this because they can’t/won’t watch a video. Not being mean either!

Remember, Disney can make the back story whatever they want. And they can change the story in the future, or eliminate it. Their story, their rules.

I voted no, as I'm not sure I've even heard of the restaurant before now, but it was neat to see all the little details!

I said I "wasn't sure" because I knew it was entirely possible that I saw it but didn't go in and therefore didn't remember or pay close attention to the name.

It's also closed a lot - they open it during high-traffic times. The only times I've ever been in there was to use the Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom portal, which is now gone. It really is pretty under the radar.

I do love all of the lore that goes into the rides and even restaurants though - it's fun to explore that stuff!

Maybe if they had tavern nights like this, they would get more business? LOL.

Would you like Arabella Smith to be an interactive character in Magic Kingdom/Tortuga Tavern? pirate:🏴‍☠️:-)
I think it would be cool because she could talk about other POTC characters and still be seen as a rare Disney character meet and greet. Thoughts? :scratchin:boat:

I go to Disney usually in the Spring, so maybe that’s when it’s always open?

We always go around Halloween or Early December and in the last 22 years, I can count on one hand how many times that location was open and serving guests. The only time I’ve been in there I believe was when they were using it for a “treat” station during a MNSS or MVMC party. I’d love to check it out and would love it if they incorporated her into the ride.

From Wikipedia:
  • Arabella Smith - An adolescent barmaid being raised by her drunkard father who owns a tavern in Tortuga. Her mother was kidnapped by pirates and thought to be dead until book five. At times the rest of the crew (except Tumen) fought for her attention but she never had a serious romance with any of them. Arabella is known to have a very retentive memory and is a walking encyclopedia of random facts ranging from history, to current events, to legend and lore from all over the world. She has tousled auburn hair and bites her bottom lip when uncomfortable or worried. She often shows signs of affection towards Jack, who often calls her Bell, lass, or love. (from Vol. 3- "Don't call me Bell! You only call me that when you want something.") She speaks very much like a pirate but she is much too clean to be one. Despite the awkward reunion between her and her mother, Arabella loves her mother very much, and when it was still believed that Laura was dead, Arabella threw herself overboard in an attempted suicide so that she would be with her mother. She is dating Bootstrap in Poseidon's Peak. Both this, and the fact that The Secret Files of the East India Trading Company mentions that she "is an accomplished pirate herself, ...daughter of a pirate, wed a pirate, and is mother to a pirate," strongly hint at the possibility that she may be Will Turner II's mother. But William's statement that in Curse of the Black Pearl: "When his mother died, he came to sea to search for his father," clashes with the Secret Files wanting her dead, meaning his mother is either someone else or the information obtained is outdated. Arabella has also been incorporated into the Magic Kingdom's Tortuga Tavern restaurant as the new owner of the now renamed Faithful Bride. Portraits of her and her mother appear in the restaurant, alongside props based on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, pointing towards having since ceased or taken a break from piracy.
