Father and Daughter Swim for 5 Hours After Sailboat Capsizes

This really caught my attention because the reporter said that they were found near Melbourne Beach. My mom lives about 10 minutes from this beach and we've visited that beach for years!!

According to the article, they hung on to the capsized hull until they could see land, and then began a 5-hour swim to the shore.

Oh my gosh! I don't know if I could swim for 5 hours. They are lucky to be alive.

They are VERY lucky to be alive. I've done a few ocean long distance swims, and it takes A LOT out of you. And for an 11 year old to hang in there, WOW!!! I don't think I did over a mile until after I was 16. Survival Instinct for sure.

I saw this article in today's newspaper and it said that the father is being held now because he took the daughter out on the boat because he "thought that poisonous gases were going to cover the State of Florida and he wanted to save her from them by taking her out to sea"...

Can this get any weirder???

Yeah, there is definetly more to this story. It was strange from the beginning because of where he parked and such.
