Two weeks ago we adopted a dog from the Humane Society and her name is Auggie. I just wonder where the name comes from. Is anyone here familiar with it? The only thing we can come up with is Auggie the doggie!

She is a sweetheart and spoiled rotten already. Poor thing was sick and way under weight when we brought her home. She is doing better now after her second round of antibiotics.

Later this week we need to take her to be weighed again to see how much she has gained. When we brought her home you could basically see every bone in her body. She should have weighed over 60 lbs and she was only 44 lbs. Now she is eating well. But she doesn’t like hard or crunchy foods. I don't know what to give her for treats. She is so darned picky. She loves those little Frosty Paws treats though! We mix her dry food with canned food so she does get some crunchy food. We will have to brush her teeth since she will not eat enough of the crunchy stuff to clean them. I don't mind though. She deserves it!!

I'm just so glad to have her. She is so loving, even though she has taken over my chair! She's my baby now!!! :)

There were cartoons when I was younger starring Auggie Doggy and Doggy Daddy. :teeth:

I think it's cute!

There used to be the cartoon character Auggie Doggie (with Dear old Dad).:p
We also had a neighbor while we were growing up whose name was Augustus. His nickname was auggie.

I've heard it as nicknames for both first and last names. For first names I have heard it for August, Augusto, Augustus, Augustine... well names like that. Congrats on your new dog though, I hope she continues to get better under your care :)

A friend of mine has an Uncle Auggie....short for Augustino. He's from Italy.

Recent CEO of Anheuser-Busch, known as August aka "Auggie" Busch III. He stepped down in June.
We hear it in St. Louis MO all the time.:D

Yes! A former coworker's husband was called Augie.

I have a friend named Augustine who has the nickname Auggie. I've never thought of it as a girl, but I guess that is because of my friend.

Congratulations on your new family member! Isn't it fun to spoil them? Especially when you know they haven't had much love in their lives. We have a ex-stray as one of our pets, so I know how it is, too.

I remember the old "Augie Doggie and Doggy Daddy" cartoons, too. They were Hanna Barbera cartoons.

I have a friend who's dog is named Auggie short for "Augsburg" after the publishing house. Great Lutheran name.

Augie Doggie and Daddy Dog. :p

When I was little we had some friends who had a daschund named Auggie. I'm not sure where the name came from (it could've been the cartoon, but I don't know), but it was cute. :)

I have an Uncle Augie (August). :)

How wonderful of you to adopt a dog who needed TLC. It sounds like you're getting a great return on your care already. That's one lucky pup!

I have an uncle August also. He goes by Auggie (I think I was grown before I realized Auggie was a nickname, lol). A lot of Italian men have similar names and Auggie is a common nickname for them.

Augie Garrido is the head baseball coach for the Texas Longhorns, who won the NCAA Division 1 championship last year.
He replaced a legand, Cliff Gustafson a few years back.
