Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

Some people tend to read offense into comments where none was intended. Before harshly judging a comment, have compassion for a poster who is seriously concerned about themselves or their family being able to be vaccinated.
It’s easy to be concerned for yourself and your loved ones. Compassion for strangers is where we don’t do so well.

Things aren't going very well in my area; they just announced that K-12 teachers were eligible and many signed up, but due to the fact that the vaccine reserve didn't exist my state is getting way less vaccinations then it thought, so many of the teachers have had their vaccine appointments cancelled. I am in the next group and thought maybe I'd get mine in February, but now it's looking like it'll be much, much later. Not the news I wanted to hear. :(

Do they know how many teachers want it?

So what is a teacher, does that include karate teachers. I really think it is better to just go by age, doing special groups will be a disaster. Just sayin. They really need to focus on mass vaccine centers and quit worrying about groups, most states have plenty they have not used

It probably depends on the state. For mine they say "K-12 and childcare workers, including teachers, custodians, drivers and other staff"

Age is a strategy but in a place like the U.S. many people at a high risk of contracting covid would be left behind because of their occupation or they are a student, etc UNLESS you flipped the script and started with the young first which is a strategy but would be highly unpopular choice here.

If you read the CDC guidelines just about anyone can make a case for being phase 1. For example child care worker, could be anyone with a child. Just focus on opening huge centers and quit this special group nonsense. I am ok with nurses and fireman but other than that, everyone should be in the same category

Do you really believe a state's actual guidelines are you have a kid you're a childcare worker? Hyperbole there..

I don't have any issue with your viewpoint regarding strategies but I do believe we should be discussing things with some reality aspect to it.

They need to go faster.
Well you won't find anyone, I think at least, disagreeing with that viewpoint :)

As far as arguing the only people arguing are the people. The governors submitted plans months ago to the CDC regarding their plans. Not every governor has made every phase and description within that phase available to the public.

Their plans by the very nature have to stay fluid and changes may (and should) change when/if needed.

well Im happy to say I got my second of Pzifer on thrus arm was sorer this time then the first one but then that could have been with the person giving it--

so 2 and done now just waiting for life to start--it will be a ling wait

DW is an RN and got her second Pfizer the week before last, said the first shot was like a dream but the second had slight soreness, but not anything more than an annual flu shot. I'm so glad she's done and she deals with patients every day.

My parents got their first vaccine shots yesterday at the Disneyland mass vaccination site. They got the Moderna shot and we were told shot 2 will be 2/13 and we will get an email about 5-7 days before to schedule the 2nd appointment and we do not have to go back to the Disneyland site if we do not want to. It was very efficient and I feel some relief that my parents are half way there. I asked them both today how they feel and my dad said like any shot and my mom just said her arm is a bit sore. So all good here.

Yes, because they signed up online to get it. The appointments were all taken right away, but many of them have had to be cancelled because they don't have shots they were supposed to get. In my area schools are open face-to-face full time and COVID has been running rampant through the schools, so teachers who are in person really would like to have te vaccine.

Well darn :( I wanted to 'like' post because you answered the question but then 'sad face' because of the rest. I'm sorry to hear about both the cancelations and the cases :(

what do you all think about the J&J vaccine that hasn't come out yet and is only one shot? will it just come out in February and by then , marchish, we can walk into a cvs for a one time j&J shot?

I am in Arizona and had to sign my grandmother up for her shot, the website can be very difficult to navigate if you aren't very computer literate. It requires you to verify your email several times and when it comes time to schedule you have to go through each day to find an available time. A lot of older people are struggling with it and don't understand they can't get it at their doctors.
OMG yes!!! Same thing here in CA. It's been made worse by the fact that in the Bay Area they have basically mostly distributed to the two big health care providers, Kaiser and Sutterhealth, so if you don't have those you are screwed.

The pharmacies haven't started sign ups in our area. Ridiculous! It's basically a bottleneck. I've been helping my 77 year old mom and dad navigate as well as my Dad's 79 year old girlfriend. They are proficient with computers, but this stuff is hidden even for me. Kaiser has been a disaster (still nothing for my mom), my father's medical (John Muir) has sent out an email saying "soon," and my father's girlfriend is Sutter so I was able to get her. So of my three over 75 year olds, only one has an appointment.

Things like this make me so insane. Bureaucracy never uses common sense. The same thing is happening here in NYS and you can't even make an appointment through their system. Everything says it's booked the phone line doesnt work. Yet, there are similar stories of having leftovers and not knowing what to do with them. I don't get why they didn't think this through better.

I couldn't agree more. They've basically been trying to use a scalpel for a situation where we need a hammer. In other words, the categories are way way way too fine and have caused unacceptable confusion and bottlenecks in CA. They would have been better off doing health care workers, and then age brackets by lottery. Something like ... if your birthday is 1900-1945 and your last name starts with "letter" by lottery you are eligible. Some kind of system where you didn't need to jump through all kinds of hoops. Just show your license/ID card and you are a go.

Dose one of the Moderna vaccine today with the second dose scheduled before leaving.

Staff was saying as I left that as of today they're not scheduling any additional first appointments pending receiving more doses.

No matter how you look at it the logistics of delivering 600,000,000+ doses across our country is daunting.
