I can't remember if I posted this here or on the other vaccine thread. Please excuse me if I'm repeating myself on this thread.
Got my 1st Pfizer shot yesterday. They asked me if I'd ever had an allergic reaction to any medication in the past. Yes, to Septra (antibiotic). So per CDC guidelines, I had to wait 30 min afterwards instead of the normal 15. Did not have any anaphylactic response, so that was fine.
About an hour after the vaccination, some symptoms showed up. Had headache, VERY tired, a little achy, some ringing in my ears (this sounds weird, but it felt like I could hear my heartbeat in my ears), and probably medium-grade nausea. Got home and took rest of the day off of work. Went straight to bed and slept for 2 hours. After the nap, the nausea & mild achiness was gone. Took some Tylenol and the headache was still there, but not as bad. After about 5 hours, the ringing in my ears went away (I've read that tinnitus can happen for some people with COVID, so I'm glad that I'm getting vaccinated instead of ending up with long-term tinnitus problems). Upper arm where they injected me was REALLY sore. Sore enough that I couldn't sleep on that side last night. It's still a little sore today. Energy levels much better today.
I'm going to preface all of the above by saying that my experience my not be like the average person's because I had a medical condition where sometimes, my body reacts with an adrenal insufficiency sort of response. That's where I think the nausea & extreme fatigue came from. Normally, I would take some prednisone in that situation, but I didn't in this case because steroids can mess with your immune system's effectiveness. I'm going to take the rest of the work day off when I get the 2nd vaccination.
This is definitely a situation in which every person has to evaluate things for themselves and decide whether they want to proceed with getting vaccinated or not. Your mileage may vary!
