Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

I found out yesterday that people who have had the convalescent plasma should wait 90 days to get the vaccine. I am eligible as a teacher to get mine in the next couple weeks but I guess I will have to wait. My niece saw something on the news and I found the information buried on the CDC website. My friend signed her mom up as an over 70 person and she said it did ask if she had gotten plasma. I’m not clear on the reason but I’m glad I know. I think I will wait till later in the spring just to be sure.

CA hasn't listened to the science as they still believe this will cut down the spread when their priority should be those folks with the most risks. CA is doing the homeless starting at ages 17 with no known medical conditions needed whereas folks who have diabetes with high blood pressure or under 75 who aren't homeless have to wait until the spring to get their shot. Our governor was asked why and he said, they can stay shelter in place.
You've already made your position very clear how you feel about certain segments of the population.

i don't know if information here will change on us end but i read in norway they are backing off on vaccinating the very frail and very elderly population due to 23 deaths vaccine related there. it may be something researching or looking into if you are or have a family member in that category for consideration. I know a 109 year old woman who got it no problem here in usa.....yes.....i did say 109, fit as a fiddle!

Understandable. I can see a high fever being lethal for someone who is frail and in poor health.

Also, even if they get (DD and DH) a second shot appt. should we be concerned it will eventually be cancelled due to supply shortage or do they hold it for them ? Like it's assigned?

I'm not sure anyone can answer this. The plan seems to be constantly in flux.

So far, my city is giving second doses as scheduled. I'm scheduled for second dose on Tuesday. Other than the site changing and being told to check Monday afternoon as they are looking for a larger location, there has been no indication that my appointment will cancel or delay.

Interesting...........I get Prolastin C infused every week which has apparently 6-7 people's plasma in it. Maybe that's why my Lung Dr nor my Alpha support people have called me (yet) concerning the vaccine.

I had plasma with covid antibodies. That's why I can't take it or it's advised that I not take it. Could be that your infusions could also have antibodies.

I can't remember if I posted this here or on the other vaccine thread. Please excuse me if I'm repeating myself on this thread. :-)

Got my 1st Pfizer shot yesterday. They asked me if I'd ever had an allergic reaction to any medication in the past. Yes, to Septra (antibiotic). So per CDC guidelines, I had to wait 30 min afterwards instead of the normal 15. Did not have any anaphylactic response, so that was fine.

About an hour after the vaccination, some symptoms showed up. Had headache, VERY tired, a little achy, some ringing in my ears (this sounds weird, but it felt like I could hear my heartbeat in my ears), and probably medium-grade nausea. Got home and took rest of the day off of work. Went straight to bed and slept for 2 hours. After the nap, the nausea & mild achiness was gone. Took some Tylenol and the headache was still there, but not as bad. After about 5 hours, the ringing in my ears went away (I've read that tinnitus can happen for some people with COVID, so I'm glad that I'm getting vaccinated instead of ending up with long-term tinnitus problems). Upper arm where they injected me was REALLY sore. Sore enough that I couldn't sleep on that side last night. It's still a little sore today. Energy levels much better today.

I'm going to preface all of the above by saying that my experience my not be like the average person's because I had a medical condition where sometimes, my body reacts with an adrenal insufficiency sort of response. That's where I think the nausea & extreme fatigue came from. Normally, I would take some prednisone in that situation, but I didn't in this case because steroids can mess with your immune system's effectiveness. I'm going to take the rest of the work day off when I get the 2nd vaccination.

This is definitely a situation in which every person has to evaluate things for themselves and decide whether they want to proceed with getting vaccinated or not. Your mileage may vary! :-)

DH received the Pfizer shot last week and had no issues. I'm really proud of my state so far. Over 27,000 fully vaccinated and over 117,000 first doses, and all received doses are either in someone's arm or allocated to a specific person. My state is usually either dead last or next to it when it comes to positive things, but high vaccination rates is in our wheelhouse. Vaccinations are mandatory at several points during a child's education with no exceptions other than medical reasons, so I guess we just accept vaccines as a part of maintaining public health. We also have a large percentage of the population who are older or have health issues who likely feel that the risks from getting Covid outweigh the fears of long term issues from getting the vaccine. I think I read that my state's goal is to have everyone who wants the vaccine to receive the first does by the end of February. We can probably get that done if the supply chain holds up.

I wish people would state what state they're from when they report! Would love to have that info when reading your stories.
DD is back from vaccine #1 . shoprite. all good so far. But in nj it seems there are no new appts. being made, as far as I can tell , until new shipments come. Most website say that here today.

For those who have the issue with links not showing up this is the headline Johnson County, KS, to begin Phase 2 of vaccinations soon, surveying residents

"Officials said they think they can move on to the next phase in the beginning of February."

The survey is much like what they sent out for healthcare providers from what I gather, they are looking at the interest level/level of demand. The contact information however will be used to contact a person for further instructions on scheduling (and I will assume this is when they have an idea of the interest level). They are clear this is not reserving a vaccine for you.

my elderly parents received notice last night their second shot appt. for feb. has been cancelled by the state of ny . they had their first shot last monday. i guess it's (the vaccine) not saved for them when their appt. was booked.
That is my fear as well. We are in Fl and our 2nd shot is scheduled for Feb. 10th. We have a problem with Vaccine Tourists that are not residents of the state getting shots. Even snow birds from Canada. If that continues those of us that are full time residents may be SOL if the supply runs out. Hard enough getting an appointment for the first one.

If you miss your second dose do you have to start over with the first dose if it’s out of the 3 or 4 week window?

According to the CDC no: " if the second dose is administered >3 weeks after the first Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine dose or >1 month after the first Moderna vaccine dose, there is no need to restart the series." But because the clinical trials were studied with certain conditions the U.S. is not using a plan that lengthens the time, purposefully that is. Other countries are delaying the 2nd dose on purpose.
