have you ever met someone who really made you stop and think and be glad for what you are doing? I met her today. Her name is Mable and she lives in an apartment complex for elderly and disabled people.

now rewind to the begining of this week, I am supposed to paint and pack bags for people in these complexes. I do it every year, so I figured this year wouldn't be any different.

Kala and I set off today and got the bags out of the car and headed up to the second floor. The first room we went to the lady nearly made me cry. She was so sad. that little bag of candy and fruit made her so happy. So on to room number 2, and I am already teary as I knock on the door, so I'm thinking this is gonna be hard.

It wasn't. Mabel opened the door and she was ecstatic. we stood there for at least 30 minutes just talking to her. We laughed and we talked and time just FLEW by. Kala and I couldn't stop smiling. After we finally left and finished delivering we couldn't stop talking about "Mable in 209" when we were leaving, the lady we came there with (jamie) said "well if you enjoyed talking to her so much, why don't the two of you come back and visit her once or twice a month?" and we're going to.

It seems so trivial, just reading it, but she really made me think about a lot. I know most people in that building hadn't had any visitors, and probably wouldn't for a good while. but Mabel just seemed different. Talking to her made me really think about everything I take for granted, like my family and my home.

so sometime next month, I'm gonna go see Mabel again.

those of you that are still with me after my rambeling, have you ever met someone like this?

Wow that is cool
Not one specific person has done that to me but when I see a homeless person it makes me think about what I take for granted

That is so sweet!

After my grandma's funeral, we had too many of those flower arrangements to keep, so we decided to give them to some of the elderly people that lived in apartment complexes nearby. We weren't even sure if we could get into the building, but as soon as we walked up to the door, the woman in charge of the complex was leaving. We told her what we wanted to do and she let us in. When we were inside, we met another woman in the lobby and asked if she knew anyone who wanted flowers. She told us the names of two women, so we went to knock on their doors. The first woman had bruises all over her body, and she left her door unlocked because she couldn't get out of bed. The second woman was so nice to us. The two women made me realize how the little things in life count, and it made me so happy on the inside to see the joy it brought to their faces. :)

Ahhh how sweet...

It makes me feel so good to do something for the community :goodvibes

My mom works for the state and gives foodstamps, medicaid. Well this summer I volunterred there and some of the people I seen made me so sad and really take a grip on reality. I really take for granted everything. :thumbsup2

That's such a great story!!

I love old people!! hahah

I feel SO bad for them though when they are sad and lonely. =[

But Mable sounds so awesome.

I've always wanted to volunteer at an olk folks home. BUT I just can't deal with the deaths. :guilty:

That's very, very sweet. My grandma lives at an apartment for seniors, and she lives with people who are always looking on the down side of life. But my grandma is truly one of the most inspirational people I've ever met. She lives like, 10 seconds away from me, and is my only living grandparent left, leaving out my step-grandmother, Barbara. Anyways, whenever I'm in a "my life sucks, I hate everyone, why did God put me on earth" kind of mood, she can tell, and tells me that everything will get better, love yourself, and these problems will pass. Sometimes I just let everything she says go over my head, but I'm typing this, teary-eyed, remembering what my dad said: "I sometimes wish my mom would just leave me alone, but then I realize, I don't know how much time I have left with her." I was in a terrible mood the day my dad told me that, but I stopped my moping, and totally understood. The people we love might leave before we know it. And most of us will spend time saying, "Why didn't I love them more?" Sorry to go on and on, but my grandma was just over, and she was extra cool today. I feel very lucky to have someone like her in my life :)

Well, my parents thought that me and my brother didn't appriciate what we have and how lucky we are live where we do... now I appriciate every step I take. I may volenteer at the Hospice Wellington which is a home for people who are dying. It's really sad though because nobody deserves to die.

I remeber one time I was in Boston.. Well I kept seeing these homeless people and I'm like wow.. because it's just soo sad.. I just wanted to help them but.. I didn't have any money..
I know for sure I'm gonna do something when I'm oler to help homeless people and stuff.
