Have you ever used DME without the tags?

Well, we leave in 2 weeks and still no DME tags. I've called Disney several times, and keep being told not to worry that I should have them soon. :confused3

Several DISers have advised me that I can still use DME even if the tags never arrive. (considering this, but a little skeptical)

Have you ever sucessfully (or not so sucessfully) used DME without having the tags? Would love to hear how it went!

It is much easier if you do have the tags. If you didn't get them in time, be sure to have your baggage claims tickets to give to the CM at the counter when you check into ME. They will retrieve them for you. It happens from time to time.

Ours are now due...it's a month before we head down. But....me 2 dd's and I aren't using them since we'll be at the Dolphin for a few days before we move to BWV. But...dh is using them. He arrives at BWV on our movein day. I've been reading about a ton of guests not getting their info packets, and luggage tags, before they leave. And it makes me wonder why. Thank heaven my dh will be traveling with carryon baggage only!!!
If I didn't get the tags, I would be very tempted to get the bags myself. I realize that a lot of guests have used the luggage delivery service without the yellow tags on their bags. But, it is happening so often now, I just figure there is a lot more 'untagged' luggage to be retrieved, hence more room for error.
I don't want to be handing over my baggage claim receipts to someone. What if I need them, to make a claim??
I don't know....I used to be a huge supporter of DME and the luggage delivery service. But they seem to be dropping the ball when it comes to getting those info packets out...and that's kind of a big deal to me. There are too many guests that are unfamilier with the whole system..they need that packet.

DME started on May 5, 2005. My trip was on May 8, 2005. As of the morning of May 7, 2005, I still hadn't received my DME tags. I called DME (866/599-0951) and they advised me to use the set-up that you've read about.

I tell you this story to explain to you that it is official DME policy/procedure and it has been around since Day One, which was more than 4 years ago. They do it every day, and have done it every day for a long time.

So I know it sounds new and strange and sketchy to you, but please rest assured that it's just business as usual at DME. On top of that, I have NEVER read a single negative post from anyone who used DME that way and had a negative experience.

I agree Eric...but.....we seem to be hearing from more and more people that aren't getting their info packets. And there are going to be more and more people, bringing their checked bags to the bus, if they can't tag them. I, for one, am just not comfortable allowing Disney to get all my bags from baggage claim. It would seem that this is happening more and more, which is going to put more and more luggage on that public baggage carousel, and that's just something I'm not comfortable with. No way do I want my bags going 'round and 'round, and then pulled out as unclaimed because the DME CMs didn't get there in a timely fashion.
I know this system has worked in the past..I'm just curious as to why things seem to be changing lately.

I finally got a CM today who agreed that I should already have them. Talked to another CM at DME and they said they had been mailed on June 12th! She re-sent them today, so now I am just hoping the second set will arrive in time.

I still feel a little uneasy about using DME without the tags. Mostly because we plan to head right over to Epcot and spend the whole day/night. It's an EMH until midnight on our arrival day. We probably won't come dragging into the room for the first time until well after midnight, and that is NOT when I'd like to discover that something didn't go right!

Having said that, if I were going to trust anyone to get it right or make it right if they don't, it would be Disney....so I guess we'll see!
