Have you ever upgraded your MYW tickets?

Hi. My family and I are looking to take advantage of the free dining in late August this year by planning a 10 day trip. It will be me, DW, and DS (8). Ultimately, we want each of the 3 of us to have 10-day PH w/ water parks & more (WP&M) passes. DS and I both have one day/one park passes from our trip last year (2005) that we never used. These two tickets were never used and each contains a one day/one park pass. If it is advantageous to us, we would like to use these two tickets as credits, and upgrade the tickets we will be buying for this upcoming trip once we get to WDW. As far as I can tell, we have two options (We are looking to stay at AS Movies for 9 nights, 10 days):

Option A: Buy 2-day PH w/ WP&M passes with our free dining package for all 3 of us. Once we get to WDW, use our two passes as credits towards upgrading mine and DS's passes to 10 day PH w/ WP&M passes and pay out of pocket for the difference. And then also pay out of pocket to upgrade DW's ticket from 2 day to 10 day.

Option B: Buy 10-day MYW base tickets for all 3 of us with our free dining package. Once we get to WDW, use our two passes as credits towards upgrading mine and DS's passes from 10-day MYW base tickets to 10-day PH w/ WP&M passes and pay out of pocket for the difference. And then also pay out of pocket to upgrade DW's ticket from 10-day base to 10-day PH w/ WP&M.

So my questions are: :confused3
Are we allowed to do Options A & B once we get to WDW?
Is Option A or B better? Is there a difference?
Is there an Option C or even Option D that I am not considering?
Is there some aspect of this transaction that I do not realize and it would actually be better for us to not use these passes we have at home as credits at all on this trip?

Has anyone done anything similar to this and care to share their experiences?

Thanks in advance!

Your ideas will not work.

You cannot combine two tickets and produce one "larger" ticket. You can only "expand" a ticket by adding cash.

The best ways of making use of saved up one day tickets is (C) during any vacation of 1, 2, 3, 11, or 12 theme park days or (D) expand (upgrade) it to completely cover some future vacation, or more with non-expiration.

I am not looking to use our 2 leftover tickets as a credit towards one ticket upgrade. Each leftover ticket will be upgrading the current tickets for me and my DS.

Can anyone help?? Please??? :confused3

Ok...so you want to take the two left over tickets and the two 2 day tickets...apply one left over to one 2 day and then upgrade it to a 10 day. If I'm understanding that correctly.... you essentially are trying to use 2 tickets towards the purchase of a 10 day. I do not think it is allowed. Your are only allowed to use 1 ticket...either the old 1 day or the new 2 day and apply it to a 10 day pass. I found this info on allears:

"You will only be allowed to apply one old ticket to each new one you get. You cannot take five old tickets each with a day on them and apply them all to one new MYW ticket/AP/PAP. If you were getting 5 new tickets then you could use all five of the old ones."

Here's the link if you want to read over the whole thing.WDW ticket info

Maybe we aren't understanding you correctly though :confused3 If I understood you right then I'd say you are best just leaving the old one day at home and it really seems the only way to really use it towards a new ticket purchase is when you are going and not buying a package.

Sorry, but seashore is right and essentially, you are trying to combine two tickets - the old ones and the ones that come with your package. You can upgrade your package tickets, but cannot apply the value of the old tickets to that upgrade.

If you're planning on going back someday, I'd save the old tickets. Perhaps plan the next trip to be 11 days and use them on one of those days...... Or <gasp> plan a non-Disney trip to Orlando and just go to one park for one day of that trip..... If you're 100% sure you'll never go back, you can get 9-day tickets with the package and use the extra ticket on the other day, but it's not very economical and probably only makes sense if you will never return and would waste the old ticket unless you use it now......

I'm sorry, but that is not what I am trying to do. Each of the 2 leftover tickets will be upgrading one of the NEW tickets we will be purchasings as part of the package. That is, as long as I am able to and allowed to do it. If I am able to, my leftover one day/one park pass will upgrade my park tickets to a 10-day PH w/ WP&M in either option A or option B. MY DS leftover ticket will do the same for him. Hopefully this is more clear. I'm doing the best I can to describe exactly what I want to do! Any help w/ this would really be appreciated! :goodvibes

Okay, I think maybe the way you're phrasing your questions is confusing?
Is this what you want to do (overly-simplistic, I know, but I want to make sure I understand):
Taking it one person at a time...
You possess an unused one-day base ticket from last year
You will be purchasing some type of admission media to make this year's visit a package and qualify for free dining
You plan to make that purchase a two-day hopper/Water Parks & More pass
You ultimately want to end up with a single ten-day hopper WP&M
Now, this is where your question gets confusing - you can apply last year's one-day base pass toward the purchase of your ten-day hopper WP&M pass, OR you can apply this year's two-day hopper plus pass toward the purchase of your ten-day hopper WP&M pass.
Ditto for your son's existing and about-to-be-purchased passes.
This is not an issue on your wife's upgrade, since she doesn't currently possess a one-day base pass from last year. However, I'm not 100% certain she can remove the Water Parks & More feature, even when upgrading from a two-day hopper to a ten-day hopper. Anybody?
Anyway, if we're still not understanding what you're asking, please let us know.

That's it EXACTLY. Thank you!

Yes, this is what I want to do. I want to upgrade my two-day hopper/WP&M pass up to a ten-day hopper/WP&M pass. And in doing this transaction, I would like to use last year's one day MYW base ticket as a credit.

OR, I can buy a ten-day MYW base ticket w/ the package and upgrade THAT to a ten-day hopper/WP&M pass. And in doing this transaction, I would like to use last year's one day MYW base ticket as a credit.

Can I do either one or both?

Thanks!

Okay, that you CAN'T do. You can apply last year's ticket toward an upgrade purchase OR you can apply this year's ticket to an upgrade purchase. You can do the same for your son - but each of you can only apply ONE existing-at-the-time-of-upgrade pass toward the purchase OF the upgrade. Really, the smartest thing to do, given that you want to end up with different passes than your wife has, is to again reserve your package with just a one-day base pass each - then upgrade yours to the ten-day Hopper/WP&M pass, upgrade your son's the same, and upgrade your wife's to the ten-day Hopper. I realize this leaves you and your son each with another one-day base pass, but this is really the only way in can be done. On the other hand, those never expire, so you can upgrade them sometime when you don't purchase a package.

No. Sorry, but you can not use one ticket as a 'credit' to upgrade another ticket. All you can do is take one ticket and pay the difference to upgrade it to become another ticket of greater value. So you will still be holding two tickets, in your situation--the one you choose to upgrade (from it's current condition to become a ten day pass), and the one that you did not.

Put another way, you can not apply one ticket as credit towards the upgrade of another (second) ticket in order to end up with a single ticket. You will have to pay for the upgrade to one ticket, and can continue to hold the other ticket for future use (or simply use it 'as is'). ;)

All upgrades are on a 1 to 1 basis. Meaning you take one ticket, and upgrade it to another ticket of greater value.

You -cannot- do 2 to 1 basis, using one ticket for credit, an extra day, ect.

This all seems reasonable to me but is there an exception with renewing annual pass? Seems like I've heard people put the 1 day MYW ticket cost toward the renewal fee and paying the difference. If that is allowed, it is putting dollar value toward something that is not really upgrading but extending.

You can do that...they allow putting dollar value toward a longer ticket or ap renewal it's just they only allow the 1 ticket to 1 ticket ratio. The OP is technically using two because he would have 1 old 1 day and a 2 day on his package. He arives at Disney and is presented his 2 day ticket...heads over to guest services with two tickets and wants a 10 day. He will have to either use the 1 day or the 2 day but not both.

At least that's how I understood it. I am curious if that is correct...Disney rules are not always the easiest to comprehend.
