Have you ever test drove cars just for fun?

Went and test drove a couple different cars, with no intention what so ever of buying, just for the experience.

1. Test drove a Chevy Blazer EV last week. It was nice and a big step up from the Chevy Bolt EV we already own.
2. Today we test drove a Tesla Cybertruck. Have been in conversations with people about their love or hate and wanted to know for ourselves instead of relying on others options. It was mixed. It actually drove great, felt much smaller than it was. I hated the lack of a signal stalk and don't think I would get used to it. My wife had the spartan interior and didn't like having to interact with the display to change vent position.

I think I might schedule an appointment for test drive a Porsche since a new dealership just opened not far away.

curious-is there any decent storage in the back of that cybertruck? we see one frequently at a nearby grocery store but they always put stuff in the passenger seat so we were curious (and does the truck bed lid lift or slide back?).

I have never test driven a car without at least the possibility of wanting to purchase it. I wouldn't want to take up a sales person's time. They work on commission and could be helping an actual customer during that time.

Looked to be regular truck sized and would suffer the same as my F150. Anything put back there would slide around, perhaps out of reach once stopped. I almost always put grocery stuff inside my truck or better yet I don’t take the truck grocery shopping.

No because I don't want to waste a salesman's time when I am not buying.
At least for the Tesla there is no salesman time to waste.

For the Chevy I told them I just wanted to drive it. They sent me on my way with the car and asked me to be back in 10-15 minutes.

No because no way a dealer is handing over keys to corvette ZR1 without a deposit. But years….. ago my buddy worked for Infiniti so I got test drive about everything back then that was traded in…. And someone did trade in a Corvette Z06.
All fairness I dislike buying new cars and sitting there for hours… have had a relationship with my local Toyota dealer for about 12 years… He gets me the car I want at a fair price over the phone I hand him a check when ready and leave with a new car.

Only when they were giving prepaid Visa cards for text driving a car.
The last time I got to do this the sales person asked if I was there just for the card. I said yes and gave me the card
Funny car dealers don’t do that anymore

Nope, I don't even test drive the car I'm buying. I make hubby or my son do it. I don't like to drive and certainly don't want to drive someone else's car. If it's getting close to the time I need a new car, say within a year, I'll start going and looking at them but just peering in the window and looking at the outside, I never get into them. I don't like car sales people so if one walks toward me, I walk away. When I actually bought the car I currently own, I went to at least 5 different dealers, getting into the cars but hubby only drove two of them. I knew how much I was willing to pay and how much I could get for my trade in. I found one at an Atlanta dealer that was the perfect color, add ons, etc. The salesman started with the run around with it will be this much, I said no. Let me talk to my manager. I said I'll pay this much and take this much for my trade in period. He said my manager said I couldn't do that but let me see what we can work out. I told him I had already said I wasn't playing this game and what I was willing to do so I'm out of here. He chased me the entire time I was walking out begging me to come back and they would take my deal. Nope, I told you to start with I wasn't playing games, I'll get the same car locally in Athens, just not the exact color I want for the price I stated. Which I did.

NO, I hate car lots.

If I go looking, I pretty much have my mind made up to buy something. I haven't done that since like 2018. I know I had to accompany DH shopping a few years ago (pre Covid). He looked at a few before he bought, but he had every intention of buying SOMETHING, but it took a few places to find the "right thing".

I loathe car shopping, so no. We are looking for a solution for DD18 and a vehicle for college. We went to two dealerships this weekend and it was AWFUL! While we could have just walked, both salespeople insisted that we had to speak with their manager about possibilities if we refused to buy. Heck, even when I tried reaching out to a third dealership online, they insisted on me agreeing to terms for a single specific vehicle I'd never seen in person or driven. Now all of them are pestering me from every email and number they have at their disposal. Seriously, I hate everything with car shopping.

Wow...there must be some pretty bad sales people out there. We got lucky, I guess. I test drove a Subaru and a Mazda and both salesmen were super nice and laid back. Made a stressful thing much more tolerable.

Agree with everybody who said "No - I wouldn't waste the salesperson's time". And also agree with everybody who said they hate car shopping. DH on the other hand is a car guy, used to be in the business himself and still has a few friends at dealerships. If he really wants to drive something just for fun, he can arrange it with them; no harm, no foul.

Funny...dealership 1 on Saturday was Subaru and dealership 2 was Mazda. The third that I have never been to in person was actually VW, but they were under the same dealership family as the Subaru dealer and I was trying to see if they could get something from their sister location so I didn't have to drive all over the city. Silly me!
