Have you ever sent an e-mail to the wrong personÉ

I did it today! Wasn't alert and pressed "Send" causing an e-mail to be sent to my aunt instead of a friend (male) from my high school days.
I didn't realize my mistake until I checked it and was very relieved it was just a general chatty e-note. When I think what it might have been, I realize that I should always have my wits about me when I press "Send."
My aunt called it a senior's moment.

My husband has done this a few times
Most were like yours...general chit chat so no big deal but one was a bit uncomfortable. Luckily the recipient laughed and they're good friends now.
My husband is paranoid now so when he's sending an email he wouldn't want "just anyone" to read he triple checks the recipients address

yes, several times.
that auto fill thing can sneak up on you if you don't pay attention.
Nothing serious, but DDIL found out 2 of the choices I was thinking about for her Christmas present.

Mine was to an old friend who played euphonium. My son just got one and was playing it so I thought of my old friend. Guess my aunt wondered why playing an euphonium would remind me of her as I titled it "Thinking of you this week..."

Also, on impulse I signed it "Hugs, ....." I don't usually show affection to this old friend of mine.

We all thought it was funny.

I have an automatic name finder when I send it, and I clicked on the wrong name without realizing it.

I've sent some very personal serious e-mail in the past, so it could have been much worse.

I've done it once. I wrote out an email to one of my friends just generally complaining about everything. Needed to vent and knew she would understand. I accidentally sent it to one of my son's teachers. Same first name and I never double checked. The only thing that saved me major embarrassment was it at the end of the school year and DS was going to a new school the following year.

Always double check email address before hitting send is my new motto.

Not an email but a text. Ugh!! And it was not good!!! Thankfully the friend I sent it to was very cool about it but it could have been much worse! I triple check emails AND texts!

I've done that! Luckily, I have no life so most of my messages are just "How's the weather?" boring ones although, I think I confused the poor person I sent it to because it made NO SENSE whatsoever to them.

I happen to have several "Michelles" in my address file. One I chit-chat with & one is a board I lead send information to as necessary but not friends. DH re-did my computers, it USED to be when I just typed in M -- it would fill in with friend M's e-mail. This time it didn't and I hit send as I have done a million times before but alas, with the redo of the computer the OTHER M showed up first in the list. I added nicknames after that.

I have done it....

Once I was forwarding an email of a co-worker to another co-worker and I was totally complaining about the original co-worker. I ended up "replying to all" on accident so the original co-worker was sent the email too. THANKFULLY I caught it in time and recalled it.

Another time I was emailing my real estate agent asking some very important questions regarding my home sale/possible short sale and instead of cc'ing my husband I cc'd my FIL (they have the same name) and I totally freaked because my FIL had NO idea we were selling much less considering a short sale. He would have FREAKED. I could not recall this message because it was outside of my office. I was on pins and needles until my hubby spoke to him and then we realized there is no way he got the email. His office's spam filter must have grabbed it... that was a close one.

I haven't but my cousin's husband the other day tried to send her a text message saying I love you and couldn't live without you. Instead he sent it to his male co-worker, who promptly replied "You complete me and I gasp at the sound of your voice"..

I do it at work--my husband and my secretary have names that both start "Lo", and I have sent e-mails without realizing the address blank finished with the wrong name. I'm better at it now, as I try to always type at least three letters.

She did thank me for telling her about what to buy at the grocery store.

DD has done this with text messages on her phone. She was sending a text to her college roommate over Christmas griping about something I told her I wanted her to do. Unfortunately for her, she sent it to me. I just went and stood in her bedroom doorway, smiling, with my phone in my hand. Her face went bright red when she realized. It was a minor vent to her roommate, so I thought it was hilarious.

That happened to me the other day. It was an obituary for someone in our office. I meant to it to a friend who used to work in my office. Her name is Donna, but it popped up Donahue and I didn't notice it until I sent it. Here it went to someone in the Boston office! I did an immediate recall but it failed. Not a big deal but it shows how it can happen.

I have disabled auto-fill-in for this very reason. Now I have to type in the person's entire email address, which greatly reduces the risk of mistakes.

I have NEVER done this before until this past week...and then I did it twice! I had a lot on my mind...my DIL was sent to Haiti and I have to go travel out of state next week to help my son with some of the logistics. Also, there is a lot of drama going on in our office and I was dealing with that as well.

The first one - I sent my upcoming airline itinerary (including confirmation number) to my husband's email address and decided to also send it to my home address. I accidentally reversed the last part of the email addresses (I have yahoo.com and DH has comcast.net) and sent to random people. I was worried the recipients would try to change my airline ticket, etc. I emailed them an apology and asked them to delete the email, etc. I received nice responses back. I also googled the email addresses and found information on both people...so I know who they are!

The second email was a meeting invite to my boss. I intended to forward it to her and included a message about how she could not attend, blah, blah, blah...but I accidentally hit reply. So my explanation went to the director of a national association. Luckily, the director is a good egg and got a kick out of it.
