Have you ever risked a 45 minute layover?

I knew there was a reason, I only book non-stop flights! Having limited vacation time, I hate to waste extra time making flight connections. We fly out of Detroit and could have saved about $15.00 per person, but it's not worth it to me....it would stress me out in the worst way!

I totally agree, but some people don't have a non-stop option from their local airports. We never did until the last couple of years and now we book them if we can.

We have connected in Atlanta more times than I can count. We have always made it to our connecting gate in less than 15 minutes. Take the train, you cannot walk faster! I would never book a connection time less than 45-60 minutes, but we always arrive at our gate and have time for a bathroom stop or grabbing a to-go meal.

We have been fortunate that our connecting flights arrive on time or early. If you are late arriving, then you may have a problem. As a previous poster said too...the early you get into Atlanta, the less congestion and delays you'll encounter. We always try for early morning flights into ATL.

However I did book a good 4 hour flight with one stop from Boston to Orlando. The very good Delta cancelled that flight and put me on the two stops. The only other option was to arrive at night, yet leave the same time! I opted to just get to Orlando the quickest way possible with Delta....

Travelling this year with Airtran and Jetblue. We'll see how many times that is changed!

It can be done if your first flight isn't late. Highly recommend looking at http://www.atlanta-airport.com/ to get familiar with the atlanta airport and know where you're going. You should be able to see online what gate your flight is arriving on and your next flight will be departing from. Be ready to run if you have too. Also try to get your seats on the first flight as close to the front as possible so it's quicker to get off.

Personally for me if I had 2 kids in tow I wouldn't risk it. You just never know how long it will take you and family to get off the plane. Plus trying to get the kids to hurry in a busy airport can be hard to do.

Any time you have a layover, be sure you have a carry-on with everyone's needs for at least 24 hours (pj's, meds, undergarments, contact lens stuff, etc.). Just in case!

If you have to do a layover in any major airport, I would try for 90 minutes or so. A little extra time in case your originating flight is delayed slightly.

I do a layover at ABQ--fairly small airport--periodically, and if my originating flight is delayed more than about 15 minutes, I call the airline before boarding and ask them to reschedule the balance of my flight if necessary. SWA is really good about getting passengers where they are going! :)

I've got the boarding passes - I have A-17 from Chicago - LA so the first flight better not get in too late!

and I have A-20 from DC to Chicago so I can sit in the front of the plane, jump up and run out when I get to Chicago.

I only book nonstops too but all the SW flights from DC to LA have stops or connections and this flight is a rewards flight so I didn't pick another airline.
