Have you ever made a rental car reservation using a check card?

I don't have a credit card, but I do have a check card with the Visa logo on it. It can be used anywhere a credit card can (geez... I sound like a commercial!) but instead of getting a bill the money just comes out of my checking account. I'm sure you know what it is. Anyways I was wondering if anyone has ever had any success reserving and paying for a rental car reservation using one. I think the last time I checked I couldn't use a debit card ... which I'm assuming they mean to be an ATM card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

I have used them at National, Alamo and Budget.
Not sure why I was able to at National, but, it went through without a hitch. Something about check digits on the card make them bounce back. Apparently, my bank codes them like a regular MC.
Alamo accepts them,
Dollar accepts them and Budget accepts them.

Jenny,
I've paid for a car rental through priceline.com using my check card which has the visa logo. However, when I go to pick up my rental, I have to show my credit card. They will not accept a check card/debit card when I pick up my rental even though I used it to pay for my rental. My reservation is through Budget. I called to verify and they did confirm that I must show a credit card to pick up the vehicle.

I used Priceline for a rental with Alamo, used my check card and did not have to show them anything except a license and my quicksilver card.
Different companies, different rules.
