Have you ever lived alone for a while?

When I was young I was terrified of being alone.

I went from my family house to married but there were a few years where I stayed behind while kids finished school and DH was in a different state working.

At first I was distressed and no lie, some aspects were tough, but eventually some nice truths settle in, like not needing to compromise on what you buy, what you do or when you do it.

Now when I get a few hours

It has been a few minutes but yes. I lived alone for several years between moving out and getting married. Probably about 5 years or so. Like Annette, if DH predeceases me, I will live alone again and be content. The kids can visit but they can't live with me.

Yes for several years before & between my two marriages - LOVED IT - definitely my preferance - I have virtually NO alone time now that husband is retired & it's really affecting my mental health - I NEED at least some time all to myself or I get even weirder than I already am - gotta get him a hobby out of the house or something.

To be honest - no. I had a roommate for 3 years after graduating from college before getting married. Married 27 years (as of today, our anniversary). We've had stretches where one of us is travelling for work or such, but nothing for any long stretch of time.

I've never lived on my own, by myself. I did move out shortly before my 18th B -day and I did move back in with my parents for a period of time at 24 and was gone again at 26.

I lived alone for a few months before my first marriage. That marriage didn’t last 2 years, so I was alive for a while until my husband started coming around. I still like my quiet time. Other than the yard work, if my husband goes first, I should be fine.

I went from my parents to my now ex to with just my kids. I have only truly lived alone since May. It was strange at first but I’ve gotten into my rhythm and rather enjoy it.

I’ve never been afraid per se of being alone. I always enjoyed me time. 10 years ago with my daughters grown/adults I even started traveling alone.

My mom went from sleeping in a bed with her sister to sharing a bed with my dad at 22. She told my sister and I go live alone before marriage, which we both did after college, for 5+ years. H and I were dating during that time, he had roommates, we spent most nights together, but I LOVED having a place that was mine (as small at it was). My kids have heard about it many times (my apartment was a mile from here). Got pregnant with #1 5 months after we got married, I popped out 4 more in the next 6 years.

I live alone now! Before my husband passed away, I used to treasure the moments when I had the house to myself, but now that I am by myself, I do get lonely. I'm looking forward to when my current partner is in a position to move in with me.
