Have you ever had an MRI?

I also felt lots of vibrations and the area of the MRI got really warm
OK, this brought back kind of a funny memory which I'll share to hopefully give the OP a little laugh. :teeth:

On diagnosis of breast cancer they do MRIs of both breasts (and now that I think of it they only do one breast per day so I've actually had 4 MRIs). You have to lay on your stomach and keep your arms above your head while your breast goes in a "hole" in the bottom of the machine. I was counting the minutes until it was over. At one point I thought I noticed my breast was "heating up" but didn't want to say anything. When the test was over I asked the tech "Was it my imagination or did my breast get hot?". Yes, she said, it got hot, that's the magnetic field in action. But, she added, that's nothing compared to what the guys have to go through having MRIs of their prostate - they get a probe that also heats up (use your imagination where) and it's not uncommon during the tests to hear them yelling "Hey, WTH, it's getting HOT in here"!! :earseek: :rotfl:

Maybe they ought to warn you before you go in there, LOL. :firefight

If you get nervous tomorrow, think of that. :lmao: Hopefully the time passes quickly and you won't have any problems. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the laugh. Now if I start to freak out at least I can think to myself, well thank goodness I am not getting "THAT" done! I appreciate the warning, knowing me I would be panicking that something was going wrong and that the machine was about to blow up or something so now I will be prepared for machine to start feeling hot.

You guys are all great.

I had an MRI on my head when I was 16. I didn't think it was scary at all. You just lay there. The only thing that was weird was the shot they gave me. I think it was some kind of dye. I remeber it being ice cold and I could feel it going up my arm.

Just realax. You'll get through it just fine.

I had my MRI last night...I just wanted to thank you all again...hearing about your experiences really helped! It helped a lot just knowing what to expect.

jbdreamer - I kept thinking about your post. I kept repeating "It was not scary at all. You just lay there." It really did help me keep it in perspective when I felt like I was started to get freaked out a bit. LOL.

Thank you guys !

Wow, I am glad I could give you some words of comfort. Happy to hear you got through it ok. :cheer2:

I've had five. One of my left knee, 2 cervical and 2 lumbar. With the knee one my head and shoulders were out of the machine. The last lumbar one I had was in a regular MRI but the other 3 were in an open machine. I fell asleep during the tests twice. Really! The other times with the back ones I was pretty uncomfortable due to back pain but the staff at the place I used really went out of their way to make it as tolerable as possible.

I have mixed emotions about MRI's. While not as much fun as a stroll around EPCOT, they're not that bad. Keep your eyes closed if you think the tight fit will bother you. I also realize that an MRI may have saved my life. During one of the cervical spine ones, they picked up a growth on my thyroid. Turns out it was pre-cancerous. Without that test, I doubt that it would have been found in time.

Good luck!

Glad you got thru your MRI okay! I have had both an MRI and an MRA, which is specifically for the blood vessels in the brain (I had lost the vision in one eye over a 72 hour period and they thought I might have either a pituitary tumor or MS). I kept my eyes closed because I am very claustrophobic and just focused on good things (I actually planned a WDW trip to focus on something else). I hope your results are positive. Good luck!

Glad you made it through your first MRi.

One funny here, I had one done in December when i injured my neck area.
Someone had actually crawled up in there and pasted pretty pictures on the top part of the hole for people to look at while having it done. That would not have been so bad, but for the fact that they stopped me at the beach scene picture and I sure was thirsty because of it. :lmao:
