Have you ever been upgraded through DVC?

Just wondered if anyone has ever gotten a free upgrade when they arrived for their vacation at WDW? I just wondered that if there was availability, would the front desk or DVC ever upgrade a member from a studio to a 1 bedroom? I know there is a big point difference, and I am not sure how often DVC rooms go unused.

With the talk of all the upgrades that have been going on where people are being moved to SSR as an upgrade, I just wondered if DVC members have ever had this happen?

I got a fabulous BWV upgrade a couple of years ago. I was supposed to get a two bedroom standard view, I think, and was upgraded to a Grand Villa. It was amazing! I had my mother and brother with me and they were thoroughly impressed as was I. Three nights in a Grand Villa, it was wonderful!!
We are going back in Jan, two nights at Vero in a Beach Cottage and 4 nights in a BWV GV, I can't wait, I just hope my family is happy with the accomodations :rotfl2:

Did they mention why or how the upgrade came about? That sounds fantastic, and upgrade to a Grand Villa for three days - Wow, very nice!

I just remembered, we once were supposed to stay at an OKW studio and upon arrival we were told there were no rooms available. We were moved to a one bedroom at SSR with a DD view. Needless to say, it was great. And we bought an add-on there. Hmmmmmmmm..........

They did not, the front desk person just smiled and said we should be very happy with our room and I didn't know what she meant until I saw those double doors with our room number! I couldn't wait to open those doors and see the look on my families face, it was so cool!

I was upgraded from a studio to a 1 bedroom at VWL once. I just presumed they had oversold the studios.

DVC does not do complimentary upgrades, as they are not allowed to. Due to the point usage it truly would not be fair to other members and would create chaos for the resort staff with members upset that they did not get one.

They upgrade when they have to, due to a room being taken out of inventory due to a housekeeping or maintenance issue.

I was upgraded to a one bedroom from a studio at WLV. We arrived close to midnight, they may have overbooked. Never told us why, but it was for 5 days.

I don't think Disney ever overbooks the DVC resorts, even the cash rooms. I think that more likely a room was not available due to an unforeseen maintenance issue or some such thing (beyond regular maintenance schedule).

So yes an upgrade can happen, but I'd never count on one...or even ask for one for that matter. :)

No - I've never thought about asking for one, but I just wondered how many people here had ever gotten an upgrade on a DVC vacation.

Was this a cash stay through CRO? There is no concierge at BWV so I assume you were staying in Boardwalk Inn? They don't have studios though. Boardwalk Inn, however, is not available to DVC members on points.

I wasn't meaning to imply that you would be asking for one, though I can certainly see how it could have been taken that way. No offense intended.

I have seen people posting here, usually newbies, who I am quite sure ask for the upgrades like they do at other hotels. I was just trying to help set expectations and show that DVC is not like "other hotels", including the other WDW resorts.

no - never been updated.

some members do call in their last night and ask to book another night.

my brother wanted me to do that - NO WAY - he was talking about Friday night in a 2-bedroom. I had already spend 150 points on his trip that would have been another 73. in those days I only had 190 points....

MS would do this then. Don't know if they still allow it or not now.

have heard of very few upgrades with DVC - generally the room they were assigned has problems. Or worst they are still waiting at 6pm for their room. those do gets upgraded at times.

We were upgraded 1 1/2 years ago at HH. I can't remember if we had a studio or 1 br. But we got a 2br. It was just dh and I. I loved it, because this is our one trip away from the kiddos, and I was able to lay out ALL of my scrapbooking supplies. At home, I have no space, so I have to pack up my supplies each time I lay them out. I know it's geeky, but it was so NICE!!

I was not offended at all, not to worry. It was just a question that popped into my head.

We were staying in CASH room w/ our DVC discount at AKL when it 1st opened. They upgraded us to the top floor (not concierge), but the slightly bigger room w/ what we enjoyed the most--the rounded larger balcony. It was when they had the grand opening ceremonies where the brought the Broadway people down to do a short show in the lobby. Very cool!!!
