Have You Ever Been Treated Rudely As A Guest??

Oh my! That is totally rude! I think I would have had a few choice words for them! I would have swiped the pasta salad from under their noses and left!

Wow! That definetly wins the Rude Award of the Year!!! Maybe next time they all have a barbecue you "guests" should all bring EMPTY bowls!!!:p

OMG, I am literally slackjawed. Ugh, I would have NOTHING to do with those people ever again.

This really takes the cake (okay, there's a bad pun in there somewhere ;) )

With friends like that, who needs enemies?

Hmm.. I wonder of these folks are somehow related to my DH's sisters DH.. Here's how it used to go...

We (DH, myself & 3 kids) would be invited to their house for dinner.. Our kids and their kids would be served soup - DH, his sister, and myself would get hot dogs - and my sister-in-law's DH would have a HUGE steak..

Her DH also used to lock up all the "goodies" in a cabinet for himself and wrapped a chain around the freezer (where the steaks were) with a pad lock on it!!

First time we were invited we were too speechless to say anything - thought maybe it was a fluke or there was some "rationale" - but when it happened the second time, we never went back again..

What on earth on people thinking when they act this way????

Add my name to the list of people who are shocked by this RUDE behavior. It is so bad, it is funny.

The only thing I have that is even close to this happened many years ago. My folks were invited to an "appreciation" barbecue. The hosts were farmers and a large group of men had gone to the farm to help with some big project (can't remember what, seems like maybe building something). These people had a nice cookout as their way of saying thanks. After the meal, the brother of the farmer says, "I think there has obviously been some expense in providing this nice meal......and he proceeded to "pass the hat" to collect money. The guests were so shocked, most of them put in $5 or $10. It became a big joke among those who had been there. They figured the farmer got a weekend of free labor, a nice meal and some extra cash!

Even today, after a family gathering, one of us is sure to stand up and say "I think there has been some expense here............":p

I would have taken my pasta salad home with me too. This is the most strange, bizarre and rude situation I've ever heard.

I wouldn't go back either.

Sal, your story is strange too. My goodness that was a strange thing to do. Has anyone volunteered to help that guy again?

After seeing my pasta salad on the table I may have gone over pick it up and said, there it is, a lot of the other guest were asking for it and just keep walking out the door with salad in hand.

nativetxn,

No, I don't think anyone ever felt like helping them out again!!

ROFLOL!!!! absolutely unbelieveable....though I do believe.....

I've never heard of such a thing, I know I would have taken the pasta salad back with me, or would have taken it outside for the "GUESTS" to eat.

This should go to Miss Manners, Ann Landers, Dear Abby, GOod Housekeeping, and every local "can you believe this" spot on the radio stations. I thought I had heard just about everything, but this tops the list.

It is too bad that people like that end up with fewer and fewer "friends". I would have said, excuse me, I need to take my dish out to share with the lower class. Boy oh boy, this is just amazing.

Even after reading all 4 pages of this thread, I'm sitting here with my mouth hanging open! What nerve!?!?!?!

Forget Class! I would have walked outside and announced loudly to everyone, "The steaks are ready! They're in the dining room!" and watched the stampede. Then I would have dumped my pasta salad on the table and left with my disposable bowl. Buy hey, that's just me. :p

I'm not big on confrontation (okay, I avoid it at all costs) so I probably wouldn't have dumped the salad...just sent DH in to get it before leaving. However, if I'd thought of it I can just see me telling everyone that the steaks were ready! Tina, that was priceless! :teeth:

Too bad these comments don't come to mind as quickly when we're in weird situations, huh?

All I can think of is when I am at my parents house in Florida, they have a section in their newspaper called, "Ticked Off" and I keep thinking this would be a great story for that!! LOL

That is unbelievable!! How rude can people be?? I would have taken the Pasta Salad, told everyone outside what was going on and then left...what a bunch of jerks!!

I haven't read any of the others posts but I am flabbergasted (sp) by these people! THE NERVE! I would have ran in grabbed my salad and steaks and said don't call us we'll call you!

Holycow

Sal your story kind of reminds me of something that happened to my parents. They spent an entire weekend helping their friends build a deck. The friends wanted it before their big party. We have pictures of my parents working on it and then they never invited my parents to the party.

Wow this one is amazing too cinlee!

I can't believe the way some people behave.

Ok this is what was done BY us .....

We held an engagement party for a friend. I made an Italian buffet for approx 25 people. No one brought anything. Tables were set up outside for people. One of the couples attending wanted to stay inside to eat dinner. Her dh has Parkinson's of which most of the other guest were unaware. He has difficulty feeding himself due to the shaky upper extremities. I had not seen them for 3 months and I was unaware of the increased problems with eating. So, his wife helped him eat at our dining room table. Since I know this I stayed inside with them... My dh was outside with the other guests. This lasted for approx 30 minutes. I am hoping that the other guests understood, even tho we did not tell them why I was eating with the other guests.
MY dh told me that no one mentioned it.. but I am sure they noticed. Oh well.. I did the best I could.

That being said.. I find that the story told here was amazing!! HOLY COW>> I would have left... without my salad. Hoping that the hostess would call later and explain the rude treatment we rec'd....
