Have you ever been injured at a park?

My DS fell Saturday at the Magic Kingdom and broke his arm! I have to say that Disney personnel were wonderful. A CM happened to be walking behind us when it happened and she took care of calling for an ambulance. I am sort of surprised that no one from Disney has called us though. They wrote down all of our personal information. Has something like this happened to anyone else?

Nothing like that, my daughter just came down w/strep throat & a high fever one time. We called the doctor, he came to our room and took care of her. He even had medicine w/him that we could purchase instead of going out to get some. I thought that was great. I'm sorry to hear about your son. I know something like that just must have really upset him, especially while on vacation there! :(

Was it a doctor that worked for Disney? How did you get in touch with him? That would be comforting to know that service is available. Thanks for the info.

I've never been injured in a park, but I got a little bruised up at the AS food court during my first trip. There was a rather large man standing behind me in the line and the poor guy had a seizure and fell on me. The two of us took out a baker's rack on the way down.

I was told that he was fine and was able to finish his trip without any problem.

The front desk really helped me out of a jam, though. My room key and driver's license got knocked out my hands when it all happened. A helpful bystander apparently scooped them up and sent them with the man to the hospital. The front desk took care of issuing me a new key, and asking the man to look for my I.D. when he returned from the E.R. a few hours later.

Everyone was great! Of course they were most concerned with the man who was sick, but they also took the time to make sure I hadn't hurt myself, either.

I fell in my room at ASMU and twisted my knee really bad. It was swollen all day and I was so sick to my stomach from the pain. I laid around for hours while my DH and son just sat there and watched TV. I took alot of Tylenol, but it wouldn't shake the pain. Finally, we called the front desk and explained what happend. They called a primary care clinic that came and picked me up in a van. We got xrays and everything and they gave me crutches. We tried the crutches, but I just couldn't do it, so Disney gave me a wheelchair to use for the last two days.

The only bad thing about it was that the clinic did not except insurance, so we had to pay out of pocket. (They gave me a receipt which I filed with my insurance when I got home.)

I have to say that the ASMU manager was really great. She called back later that night and left a message and then called again the next day. It wasn't their fault, I just was a clutz.

It was a bummer, but it really didn't dappen my trip too much except for those first few hours of pain.

My youngest DS (13 months at the time) fell on the bleachers at Fantasmic! The CM's couldn't have been more helpful. They offered any services we wanted. It was just a bump on the head but we certainly appreciated the way they treated us.

So sorry to hear about your son! When I was 8 or 9 (many years ago), we had just gotten off the Swan Boats (that really dates my story) when one of those afternoon storms started up. The poles for the parade had already been set up along Main Street. We decided to run for the shops so as I came around one of those poles I slid my finger in the hole where they clip the rope so I wouldn't fall. Only when I went to pull my finger out, I was going so fast that it didn't come out real easily. It swelled up twice the size of my thumb, so my parents decided to take me to first aid. From there they thought I needed to have it x-rayed so off we went in a Disney van. I don't remember where I went, but I had chipped the bone and had to wear a finger splint the rest of the trip. My finger is still misshapen from that accident.

I can answer what happened to us. My DD got sick back in May during a trip to the Poly. I called the front desk to ask for a Dr recommendation as I wanted someone to come to us. I didn't want to waste time looking all over the place for clinic! Anway the front desk connected me to a "house doctor". They do not work for WDW but do do all their doctoring exclusively at the resorts. We made an appointment for a couple hours later and the doctor came right to our room. He was extremely nice and took his time. He said he was used to seeing kid that were leery of someone new. Anway he couldn't preform any tests for strep as that is not allowed but did find that DD had all the symptoms. I opted to get meds from him and he called them in and had them delivered to our room later that evening. His fee was $165 and the meds were $15 plus a $5 resort charge.

My youngest fell while walking at EPCOT, with a little help from his big brother, and we were helped by a CM to go to the first aid station. They CM's at the first aid station were more than wonderful for a scraped knee. We signed a waiver form and he was treated with bactine and a bandage, and LOTS of Diseny stickers that had Nurse Minnie on them that said 'I visited first aid today". Later on that day other CM's asked him if he was feeling better, when they saw his sticker on his shirt. :D

A good friend of ours son fell in the ITTBAB show and busted his lip really bad. The worst part was that his dad and sister were on another ride. Disney took over that got the child and his mom stright to first aid and then sent someone to the ride the rest of the family was on to let then know what had happened. He recieved not only first aid, but disney shirts for them all as mom and his were covered in blood, and mickey dolls for him and his sister. She could not belive how WDW handled it all.

This past July my DS - 6yo, fell 4" off the "boat" at the kiddie area of TL. It is a cement boat where there are water cannons. DS and brothers were playing "battle" with all their new friends and DS took a tumble off the boat, falling to the cement below. He came crying and holding his head. His head and shoulder were bleeding, alittle more than brush burn.

I took him to the nearest life guard, just steps away. We were directed to First Aid. I had to sign in, they checked him out and put a bandage on his shoulder. They gave us some extra bandages for later. His head was fine and his shoulder scabbed over. He still has a scar on his shoulder.

When we got back to the kiddie area the life guard checked on him and said that DS was 110% now. Before I could turn around he was back playing and wondering where the "general"(his new friend) went!

I've never been injured at a park, but I have spent my fair share of time in First Aid!! The first time was when I passed out in the waiting area for the Little Mermaid show in MGM. The heat, the crowds, the close quarters... need I say more? It was quite embarrassing being taken to First Aid in a wheelchair. The nurses there really watched me and made sure I drank plenty of Gatorade and ate something. The second time was this past June when I became dehydrated at MK after spending the whole day at BB. You know, sometimes when you are soaking in water all day, it's just not so easy to remember to actually DRINK some!! I ended up in First Aid at the MK, and again was well cared for until I felt better.

My wife was looking one way and walking another going into AK and tripped over a rock protruding from the border around a flower bed. Her knee and calf were heavily bruised and pretty badly scraped. A cast member appeared from nowhere, helped her through the gate, onto an electric cart and took her to the First Aid station.

The treatment at the aid station was first class and they sent her out with a couple of spare "cold packs" and told her if she needed more to just stop by and ask. A "suit" showed up and strongly urged my wife to submit an incident report which she did and then showed the "suit" exactly what rock she had tripped over.

When we went back to AK the next morning the rock, which had been solidly set in concrete, was gone and another rock that did not protrude from the border had replaced it. We were certainly pleased with the response.

Disney Doctors - No such thing the front desk has names of local clinics that offer their doctors to the guest. I know we used one frequently because their Drs would come on property if the guest requested a house call. Otherwise we would have them taken too the clinic.

Seen many things happen to guest. Too many stories to tell, but part of our basic training is how to handle accidents. Managers specifically must file reports no matter how small the incident. WDW does have it's own Fire rescue/paramedics unit or Reedy Creek and they are called frequently.

Yes, my heart is broken every time I have to leave!
I am sort of surprised that no one from Disney has called us though
Why would they? If he broke his arm at the mall would you expect them to call???????????

Grumpy92,

Will I receive a copy of the incident report or do you know?

I GOT MY PRIDE HURT ONE TIME AT AK- about 1 1/2 years ago my friend and I were exiting a ride and sat down on a bench just out side the exit. It was a log bench about 5 ft long. SHe sat on one side- and I sat on the other, adjusting my camera...l. or something. Well she stood up to start walking and I and stayed sitting on the bench.... well..... kind of. When she stood up, I must have been on the edge of the bench enough to make the entire other edge of the bench fly into the air- quickly depositing me on the ground! The 2 nearby CM's just looked at me with in an astonished way- didn't come over to see if I was ok or anything.... I was, except, like at said at first- my PRIDE was very hurt! That experience probably ranks up there in the top 10 of my personal most embarrassing stories! Just htought I'd share it to give you all a good laugh! :p

I'm curious but why would you need or want an incident report? You were there right?

DS fractured his elbow at Epcot August 2002. He slipped on wet floor at the entrance of Honey I Shrunk the Audience. CM very helpfull - paramedics came to attraction to see DS. All accident forms filled in - I don't think we got a copy of report.

I got some metal shards lodged in my foot at BB, and I went to the first aid hut. The nurse was very helpful, and kept chatting to me throughout, checking I was ok, not in much pain etc... I felt like a big kid ;D

Better than the NHS morons we get over here...

To whoever mentioned Reedy Creek Fire service... We spoke to some firemen a couple of years ago in a bar at Disney. They were from Orlando, and another member of my family (can't remember who) asked if they worked at Reedy Creek - which was met with a lot of laughter :teeth:

Sounds like Reedy Creek has a bit of a reputation among Orlando firefigters... heh heh
