Have you ever been in an ambulance?

Four times.Once for a ruptured ovarian cyst that had me unconscious and my parents freaking out. Once with DS who was 5 at the time and having a seizure. Then not to be out done, once with DD who was 1 and not breathing well from the croup, and once myself this past winter when I did something silly and needed to be brought to the hospital for a tasty treat of charcoal.

I've ridden in an ambulance 1 time. I was 16 years old and selling ads for the Ms. [Insert the name of my High School here] Pageant. I was slowing down to make a left hand turn and a van rear-ended me. The ladder on top of his van flew off and landed about 30-50 feet away and my head snapped back so hard I broke my hair clip on the seat. He knocked my bumper off and when the police told me we needed to get my car moved (he knocked me into oncoming traffic and I almost hit another van), I put it in reverse and promptly burst into tears when I heard the bumper scraping the ground.
They put my cell phone back together so I could call my parents and loaded me in the ambulance after they got there. (Strapped to one of those fabulous backboards, of course! They thought I'd damaged my neck) I remember them turning the sirens on and I wanted to smile even though I was hurting because I'd never been in an ambulance before, but I made a valient effort not to smile, cause I thought they wouldn't believe I was really hurt!
The craziest thing from all that, was that he ran over to see if I was ok after hitting me and he saw my high school band jacket in the seat next to me and says...."I was in that band, too! I played saxophone!" I just cried and looked at him like he'd lost his mind.

Many, many times as a child. But I was never a patient. Both my parents were EMTs. DM was actually captain of the volunteer squad for 18 years. Since she was a SAHM, if you were home from school, you got stuck going on a call and sitting in the front seat. There are many times when I fell asleep there.
Also, if she was supposed to pick us up from school and she had a call she would swing by on the way back in the ambulance. Let me tell you, an ambulance pulls into the high school parking lot at dismissal.......EVERYONE looks. People start commenting. Nope, sorry I'm the dork!! There's my DM. Please dear lord let a hole open up and swallow me now. There is no way that looks cool when you are 16!!

Several times.

First time I was a teen driver and I got in a single car accident. Second time, early 20s driver, single car accident. After those, I wised up and started wearing my seat belt!

Next time was major excitement. I was about 26 weeks pregnant with DS, and away from home on a fishing trip. I went into pre-term labor in the middle of nowhere! When the paramedics came into the bathroom, this young kid snapped on his gloves and said "Should I check her for dilation???? I want to be a member of the stork club!" Then hubby was ready to strangle the kid. Luckily, the senior EMT got the kid calmed down. I had a high speed ambulance ride through some seriously windy roads with hubby following behind. Luckily, the labor was stopped, since that hospital had just opened their normal OB floor and the nearest NICU was an hour away!

The last ride I had was in the front seat while they were transporting DD to Children's Hospital in DC. This was when she had the psychotic reaction to strattera. She was completely sedated by that time, so it was an okay ride. And I thank God for those EMTs! They really helped calm me down, and they stopped back to see DD when they came on shift the next day.
