Have you ever been in a bad car wreck?

Interesting to note how many times the words "drunk driver" have already appeared in this thread.

I have had two serious accidents. In 1982, I was 7 months pregnant. I was headed to the hospital to set a patient up in traction it was just after midnight. I was hit head on by a drunk.
Major injuries for me, the drunk did not even know he had caused a horrific accident. In 1999 I dropped my cell phone, as I reached for it I veered into an oak tree.. long story.. but I was not found for three hours.. thus my tag.. gotta hobble

So I BEG EVERYONE.. PULL OVER WHEN YOU USE YOUR CELL OR AT LEAST USE HANDS FREE CELL SERVICE.

I was pretty bad for the first several years of driving. I had a bunch of minor accidents: running into a bridge, hitting the back of a school bus, hitting guardrails, etc. The worst one was driving home from school one afternoon after it just started snowing. Luckily my friend that I normally take home didn't ride with me that day. I was in a string of cars (my ex in the car infront of me) when everyone panicked and hit their brakes. I must of hit mine too hard and just started spinning like I never thought possible. I crossed over into the on-coming lane, hit a tree, spun back out onto the road before winding up into another tree. I must have blacked out for a minute or two because the first thing I remember was my friends running down the bank asking me if I was okay. Luckily I've always been one to wear and seatbelt and anyone that rides with me must wear one too!

I once drove right through our garage door. I had hit the gas instead of the break.

Everything looked like it was in slow motion on impact. The garage wall stopped the car. I hit the steering wheel and split open my upper lip to the bone.

Ugh, why are you asking. You are going to get me depressed.:(

No seriously, I'm glad that you and your daughter were okay. It's weird that no one else stopped to help.

Yes, I was also hit by a drunk. I consider myself lucky, to have the life that I have now. Keep drunks off the streets, if you ever have the opportunity to do so.

I was in a pretty bad car accident once when I was 13 or 14. Yeah, that was a fun day. It was raining and my dad was driving. My mom was in the front passenger's seat and my brother and I were in the back seat. My dad was stopped waiting to make a left turn on a two lane two-way steet. Everyone behind us had driven by on the shoulder.
All of a sudden I heard this loud metal crunching sound and we started moving across the road into would-be oncoming traffic. Thank goodness we didn't hit anyone head on. A teenager in a truck hadn't seen us in time and had plowed right into the back of our stationwagon sending us into the ditch on the other side of the road.
I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt because it wouldn't fit around me since it was such an old car. So when he hit us I flew forward as the front bench seat broke and came back to hit me in the chest pinning me to my seat and knocking the wind out of me.
I remember an off duty police officer coming over and staying with us until the police got there. He made me lie on the ground perfectly still just in case I was badly hurt. So I'm laying on the wet grass with rain pouring into my eyes. And when the paramedics finally arrived they put on one of those boards that keeps you perfectly straight but as they did my skirt got caught and twisted around it. Then with my neck in a brace and my head taped to the board they hoist me into the ambulace and right before they shut the doors one of my sandals falls off. I about wanted to scream. I was wet and cold and my stupid skirt was twisted and riding up and I was short one shoe!
But I did walk out of the hospital. I was bruised pretty badly but it was only bruises and not broken bones.

yup...was cut out of the car by the jaws of life and earned a broken pelvis. 3 months before my wedding.

No. However every time I buy a new vehicle someone hits me and then takes off within weeks of purchasing it:rolleyes:

There is a thread that I'm trying to avoid. Does that count?:p

20 years ago, I was driving with a friend who was at a full stop and got rearended by a truck. Her trunk was in her back seat, and we are lucky we didn't go through the windshield (no seatbelt laws in 1983). I did get whiplash and to this day my back just "ain't right".

My mother was in a bad one last month. She lost control of her car and went on the median. Apparently, there was a manhole cover in her path, and she hit it and flipped over onto the highway. She totalled her car and had to be removed by the jaws of life. But ... she only has bruises and whiplash;not even a broken bone. She already bought a new car and is driving herself to physical therapy. Amazing.

When I was about 22, I bought a cute little red Toyota Corolla SR5, with a sunroof, and a cassette player, and boy! wasn't I all that and more!!!!!!

Well, that car had a target painted on it. I got hit by everything under the sun in that car.

The worst one was when an 18 wheeler flatbed backed up a higway exit ramp. I was behind the truck, so the bed of the truck came through my windshield, hooked up under the roof of the car, picked the front end of the car off the ground and started pushing me backwards up the exit ramp. This went on for about 2 or 3 minutes, with me yelling and beeping my horn(which he didn't hear!), until finally my car got unhooked from the back of the flatbed, fell back onto the road, and sort of slid to the side of the ramp. The truck continued to back up the exit ramp, and finally he noticed me smashed there on the side of the ramp. Of course, the State Police came, there was a big tadoo, I had to call my father to come and get me, and the car got towed to the body shop.

My father and I actually beat the flatbed carrying my car to the body shop, and as my car went by the front window, one of the repair shop guys goes "Wow, I wonder how many people got killed in that accident!" When I told him that it was my car, the guy said "Wow, lady, you are really lucky!!!Can I rub you?" My father put the brakes on the body shop guy rubbing me, however;) !!!

yes :( a really bad one. Still scares me to drive on the freeway sometimes. :(

I have never been involved in a bad wreck but have missed a few by seconds. Both of my brothers have been in a few. I won't let my kids ride in the car with my youngest brother.

I haven't, but my mom and sister were in one when I was 16. We almost lost my mom. She had a brain injury (among countless other kinds). They were rear-ended while waiting to make a left turn. That pushed them into oncoming traffic where they were hit head-on twice. My sister ended up going through the back window and having half her nose severed from her face, along with lots of other facial lacerations and tons of muscle injuries. It's a terrible memory but a vivid one. :(

I have been in fender benders but my DH was in a vehicle that was hit in the back by a bus..He was not ejected but other two men were and hurt even worse..he broke two discs in his back and has back trouble to this day...

Luckily, I haven't. I think the worst one I've been in involved me and a guard rail (the guard rail won:o ). I hate to see car wrecks.:(

DH was just in an accident two weeks ago. He was sitting still at a light in his Jeep when a lady in a Cavalier rear ended him going 50 mph! The small car totaled his jeep and left him with a pinched nerve and ringing in his ears. He is going to be okay though which is all that matters. He made himself feel much better when he went out and bought an H-2 this weekend to protect himself from all those crazy car drivers! LOL!

Ive been in four wrecks over the years (was only the driver in one). In every case the car was totaled but I walked away from every one. The first one, when I was 17, a friend rear ended an 18 Wheeler while doing about 30 MPH. I ended up putting a hole in the windshield with my head (young, invincible, stupid, not using seat belt). Walked away from that one with a concussion. That was the worst. Now I always buckle up.
