Have you ever been called a troll?

Have you ever been called a troll (when in fact you are not.)

I had. It was a long time ago on the DVC board. We had just gotten back from OKW and had a less then perfect stay. While I aprreicated the charms of OKW, I compaired the over all feel of it to more like a moderate resort. That did not go over well. Hense the troll calling.

It does seem to me that people are very quick to jump all over that label, even when it isn't the case and can be very rude to some new members or people who haven't posted much in the past. I am afraid this practice has drumed off a number of new members. It does seem at one point or another some disagrees with you and the big T word comes out.

So have you been called a troll?

On the same note, are you quick to jump on the troll wagon and lable others who might not have a lot of posts yet?

The only troll calls I've made are the first time posters offering some freebie on some website....

I do confess that I'm more suspicious of posters with low counts who seem to be looking for a fight.

I had over 1000 post count and got accused of lying when I posted that someone told me they heard Aurora in costume in the MK say - "I need a smoke!!" - I was horrified and just looking for other DISer reactions - instead I got jumped on for saying slanderous things about Aurora and how I had tainted her reputation!! If Aurora had been dealing with them all day - I wouldn't have blamed her for needing a smoke

Oh and Julias mom, I think I would of been horrfided too. I guess no one wants to belive it could be true. (I know I don't) I think I would of mentioned to her (Auroa) or a CM because if my DD heard that I would of been really mad!

I have a friend who had over 20,000 posts here who was recently called a troll by the high and mighty powers because he totally disagreed with board policy and refused to step down from his position. He was banned.

On the internet, TROLL is a hugely pejorative term used to discredit someone whose point of view doesn't agree with yours. It usually says more about the person saying it than it does about the person being termed it.

Just some food for thought........

I have suspected that some people were trolls and have made the comment before, but I have to be fairly certain before I will say that. I would hate to call a new poster a troll when they weren't. That to me is worse than allowing someone to "get away" with trolling.

That other accusation on that thread was strange. I truly had this reaction to that.

Yes the pregnant divorce thread got me thinking about that. The troll label was a head spinning one. (where did that come from?)

gina2000, in psychiatrity we have a joke about that in a way. It is that people get the dx of borderline personalilty because they got their Pychiatrist mad. I must admit it is pretty true. (and most people with boarderline personaility disorder really do make you want to pull your hair out so it does go both ways sometimes. )

I believe you! When we were in DL in 2002 Pooh Bear told my now husband and I to go to Guest Services and complain about all the ride closures (it was spring break and all the mountains were closed, pirates, pinocchio, and I think 1 other thing). She (yes, Pooh was a girl) told us to demand money back, telling them we came all the way from Baltimore and were not told of this in advance, etc. We took her advice, complained, and got free lunch vouchers and some free fastpasses.

I was on another forum, but the person who thought I was a troll (this was a host) e-mailed me privately about it and didn't embarrass me in front of everyone.

I'd been posting there a few months and someone started posting trouble under a different screen name. Through a process of elimination, it looked like it was me for some reason. Never did figure out the reason, but it certainly wasn't me! If I'm going to cause trouble, I'll cause it up front.

I think what I have learned from this poll is most people who get acused of being a troll (right or wrong) don't stick around. I guess I have thicker skin then others. (actually the person who "trolled" me later said he was sorry.) What I have learned in addtion is "DON'T MESS WITH OKW" when you are on the dis!
