hey

We are booked on the eastern carribean cruise on 22nd September 2018

I was a wee bit worried about the weather, storms etc but the guy at Disney cruise line said he's worked there 8 years and he's only known one cruise to get cancelled so that kinda put my mind at rest a bit lol

However I was just wondering what your cruise was like if you done a sept cruise. Eg is the weather nice, is the sea rough, did u get to castaway cay ok etc

We have made numerous sept cruises and never had any issues. We have always made it to castaway and weather has always been wonderful.

We have cruised twice in Sept.
Once because of a hurricane approaching the area, DCL changed the Nassau day and CC day.
The other we encountered 30' waves on the open ocean going to the Easter Caribbean. We were up on deck and the water was sloshing out each end of the pool; we went back to cabin and you could not tell anything was happening.
We consider it bad luck that both of our Sept cruises encountered weather. You most likely will not encountered any issues, but rest assured that DCL will not take chance with the people on-board or the ship. The will reroute to another location if needed.

Well, it's hurricane season. If a Hurricane is in the East, you'll do a West itinerary. The sea is rougher during winter months. I found hopefully a somewhat useful thread on docking [here]. We've sailed the first week in October on that itinerary, which is similar to yours at the end of September. had a wonderful time!

Cruised in September 2016 on the Fantasy Eastern Caribbean. The weather was amazing!!! No rough seas. Loved it! Booking another September cruise for 2018, but on the Dream this time.

We always cruise mid to late september. Sometimes early October. Only last year was the first cruise we could not get off at Castaway cay. Considering how many cruises we have had the weather is usually lovely. We knew at some point it would occur. But the onboard entertainment was good. The diaper dash was a blast!

At least you still get your cruise even if it's not the same points as you plan to go to

Sounds like September is a good month to go then and to get your cruise sooooo much cheaper

We cruised mid October and had much nicer weather overall - especially in Florida and Bahamas than December and January.
We found it cool in Florida and Bahamas in the winter, but it was perfect in October. Hot but not boiling hot anymore. However.... hurricanes can happen. I don't think they do too often where it affects the sailings, and my understanding is that if a hurricane does happen then the cruise could be re-routed somewhere else, or days could be added/dropped from the cruise.. This happened last year but the cruise companies offered no penalty cancellations and discounts on future sailings.
So I wouldn't worry about it.
Oh and we had rougher seas too in January than October. So you just never know.

We've cruised Eastern 2x at the beginning of September. Had great weather. Would do it again (although the constant potential hurricane updates on the FB group were very irritating). Definitely buy insurance.

And just as a note, do the insurance thing ASAP. Once a storm has a name, no policy will be sold that would cover it.

Yes, we have cruised twice with Disney in Hurricane season.
Both times a smooth cruise, with pretty much perfect weather (one half day of light rain in one port)

However, I will tell you this; cruises in hurricane season are always a nail biter.
It depends on the year, but for our last cruise (2016) new hurricanes were forming every week or so starting in mid August, and our cruise narrowly missed one that went past and north just one day before our departure date. We had already flown down to Florida a week early, and endured torrential rains from the outer bands (only Cat 1) at the time, but 24 hours later the skies were blue and cruise departed on time.
However, a few weeks after us, folks weren't so lucky.
You can read about it in the threads on this forum; one cruise was cancelled, one rerouted from a Caribbean into a New England/Canadian itinerary, and one was made shorter and one was made longer. It was fairly chaotic, more so for people who had to decide, whether to fly in ahead of their cruise.

That is why I said, it is always a nail biter, just get ready with 1) travel insurance and 2) a plan A and plan B on how and when to get to the port.

Would I still recommend cruising in August, September, and October? Yes, I would! It is otherwise a great time of year, and we LOVED Halloween on the High Seas!

Well sounds like most of u had great cruises in sept

Hopefully it will be the same for us cos it's our last big holiday before settling down with kids etc :)
