Have to pay 3 deposits for split stay?

Okay, my husband tried to book our vacation tonight, and after about 45 mins talking to this guy he could barely understand, we were told that our stay at Pop, Oct.17-21 would have to be split into two separate reservations because our 40% code didn't start until the 19th. Well, we also want to stay from the 21-25 at contemporary so he said we would have to pay three different one night deposits for each of the three different reservations, totaling about $500!!! I was livid! Isn't the deposit supposed to be a flat $200? This is what we had budgeted out of our income tax return. Has anyone else had this happen to them? How much do you usually have to pay for your deposit? What about for split stays? :scared1:

Honestly, it sounds about right. You will technically have three reservations, and thus three deposits. I can see how you MIGHT be able to combine the two Pop stays into one, but since the Contemp is a completely different resort, I'd expect that deposit requirement to stick.

Why not just start your trip on the 19th and extend to the 27th? That way, you get the discount for your whole stay at Pop and would only have two reservations.

However, I'd suggest calling Disney back. You will get a different CM...sometimes, they are like apples and oranges in terms of what they know and how much they choose to help you. I'd call back, but be prepared to fork over the deposit $$$. Can you put it on a credit card for now and then just pay it off next month?

We may just go the entire stay at contemporary and shorten it by a few nights.....I'm so confused at this point. :confused3 Online when you book a package, you only have to pay a flat $200 deposit. Is is not that way over the phone? Because even if we only stay at contemporary, if they want a one nights deposit, that's going to be over $300! :sad2:

the deposit does go towards the total of your bill, you do realize that right? maybe just wait to book the reservation until you have the money then... how long is the promotion going on for? you're not even at 6 mos. out yet so you should still have good availability if you can wait a little bit

if your booking a disney PACKAGE...out side of 45 days of arrival..then its a flat 200.00...if you book with 45 days of your arrival date then the total is due right then and there...and if u have splt stay then your going to have pay mulitple deposits...

The CM is correct, I think. We have booked several split stays and each time have had to pay a deposit for each resort we are staying at. We then get different confirmation numbers for each reservation. However, we have only done it with room only reservations, so I don't know if the packages might be different.

If you have three separate packages then yes you need to pay 200 for each one. If you have 3 room only then it is one night deposit for each one.

It should be noted that "split stay" is pretty-much a DISboards term. It's something only fans like us typically do, and in the industry it is basically just "two separate reservations".

The CM is right.
3 separate hotel stays = 3 reservations

Each reservation requires a deposit, which is either $200 for a package, or the first night's cost for room-only reservations.

I agree...

The OP was attempting to make three separate/unique reservations, thus would pay three deposits--one for each reservation.

If you want to only pay a single deposit, then you need to make a single reservation for a single resort. Each different resort is going to require a different/separate reservation. And booking one stay using a code, and another stay without a code, again, would be separate reservations.

The CM is correct. You have 3 separate reservations, so you need to leave 3 deposits. The $200 deposit is for packages. If you a book room-only reservation, you have to pay the room rate for one night plus tax.

We have two reservations for August because the bounceback started a day later than we are arriving. We have one nightat the CR, which we had to pay in full. And then we have a 6 night package for the Poly and left $200 deposit.

I guess I understand having to pay two deposits, one for our stay at Pop and one for our stay at Contemporary, but what I don't understand is why I have to pay 3 (2 for Pop since we are arriving before the 40% off promotion begins). It's not like we are leaving Pop and then coming back. If we do this, will we have to check out of Pop and check right back in? If so, will we have to move rooms? That seems kinda ridiculous. I understand that I have to pay two separate deposits for the two different resorts. We were just going to book room only until we decided what kind of dining plan to go with. Maybe we should go ahead and decide and just book two reservations online. Does anyone know if I can use the 40% code online?:surfweb:

You didn't need to. You could have paid the same rate for your entire visit to Pop Century and paid only one deposit. However, you probably saved money taking advantage of the 40% off promotion, and therefore it was to your benefit to have two separate reservations at Pop Century.

Promotional rates are not intended for guests who would stay at a resort at full price, as you were willing to for the first days of your visit there.

Again, promotional rates are not intended for guests who would stay at a resort at full price, as you were willing to for the first days of your visit there. Generally, the front desk will finesse this for you, ensuring that you have the same room for both of your reservations, however it isn't guaranteed. Again, you have the choice (to stay at the resort under one reservation at the rate that applies on the day you check in).

We booked a package but have to have two rooms since we have four children. Our deposit was $400 even with one reservation. The initial CM told me $200. I didn't have my cc with me when I booked so I called back about 1/2 hour later. I had to pay the $400.

Then who are they for??? I don't think they would offer them on value resorts if that were the case! :)

there are people who cannot or choose not to pay full price ever. I have a price limit on what I am willing to pay for a night at a hotel, based on my expectations.

if I can afford rack rate, fine, if not I will be pushing for my AAA, military or other discount offered.

I understand that.......there's no way I could ever afford the contemporary without the 40% discount! But as far as the value resorts, I'm sure there are people who pay the rack rate all the time since it's not really anymore than a regular priced motel room (sometimes even cheaper!). I don't think that means they wouldn't like a 40% discount though, if they could get one. I'm always up for a discount! Some of us don't qualify for any discounts like AAA or military.......

Promotional rates (for the economy resorts) are mostly aimed at customers who would otherwise choose to stay off-site, or choose to not visit WDW because it is "too expensive".

That makes sense, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to take a promotional rate if it comes my way. Sure I was going to stay at Pop anyway, but with the 40% code, I'm now going to be able to split my stay between pop and contemporary. I still can't afford to stay in contemporary the whole time, even with the discount. :sad1:

Abso-friggen-lutely! And it is sure worth paying the extra deposit to do so.
